I'm sure Kaine will eventually start running into original villains eventually.

I have never really followed a Spider-Man series before but after hearing such good things about this book I gave it a shot and just fell in love with it. And I am really glad it is accessible for people like me that do not know a lot about Spider-Man, even though I was aware of the clone saga before but honestly didn't even know Kaine existed until I read this book.

Spider-Island gives a LOT of groundwork for where Kaine is as a character today. Most of his stories in the Clone Saga are pretty good. Like we said, especially Trial of Peter Parker, but also The Lost Years and The Lost Years: Redemption. His back-story isn't really as complicated as people think it is; I believe he basically only wanted to protect the Spider-Man that he thought was the clone (Peter) so that a clone could live a normal, happy life and that Kaine could quasi-vicariously live that life, hence his protectiveness over MJ and Peter and his dislike of Ben Reilly.

Internally, however, there's a lot of convoluted feelings, best examined in two Lost Years series (which are phenomenal for Kaine) and in the Scarlet Spider story in Point One.

Basically he's just an awesome character. I had to struggle through my reading of the Clone Saga but whenever Kaine was there it was easier.

Yeah. Kaine talks quite a bit differently during the Clone Saga days....very melodramatic and Shakesperean. He was always, in my opinion, a really interesting character, though. He's one of my favorite characters currently.

Stegman's lookin' a little grittier...I kinda like it. Kravinoffs doin' creepy Kranvinoff things. Annabelle and Kaine on a date!? So pumped for this issue.

Actually it looks like Annabelle forced him to come to a concert the band she is in is doing. Which I can see her doing and I'm sure she would have made Aracely if it was age appropriate for her.

Of course that brings up the question, where is Aracely? Did Kaine just leave her in the apartment alone while he came to this, or are Donald and/or Wally looking after her?

Ohhh you're right it does look like her band. I love how they throw around the names of Spider-Writers and -Artists. So far there's been Pizza DeMatteis, Aqua Romita, and now Beer Vort (for Tom Brevort (sp.?)) and Yost '85, as well as one I think I'm missing.

Glad next issue will explore Kaine's personal life a bit more. It was nice to see the interaction between SS and Officer Layton last issue, and now we'll see him and Annabelle get to interact a bit. Also I'm glad there are other people who are enjoying this series as much as I am. Hope this thread (and this series) are around for a while.

I'm enjoying the series, but I think the writers mischaracterize the city of Houston. You would almost think it's a border town, which it definitely isn't. The art made the airport look like a country airfield.

I think Annabelle's hair is actually dyed pink...at least that's how it always looks to me. And don't forget that Peter had Betty, Gwen, Felicia and some other chicks of various hair color (most recently white, i.e. Silver Sable almost kinda).

AND SCARLET SPIDER 6 COMES OUT TOMORROW! Unfortunately this will be Stegman's last issue :( So if anyone wants to share their favorite Stegman moments from the series please do! Mine would have to be Aracely wrecking Kaine's face with that wine bottle (I believe it was) in issue 3 or the splash page from the first issue with Kaine, Peter, and Ben all fighting. He really captured something about each of their personalities in that scene.

My favorite moment was when Kain chewed out the old lady for crossing the street.
