What? I have yet to see a black Nick Fury in the 616 universe. When did he get a son? And if he has a son then he isn't really Nick Fury. So... What?

The "Battle Scars" mini. He hasn't appeared anywhere else yet, apart from a blink-and-you'll-miss-it cameo in Scarlet Spider.

The only thing that pisses me off about it is with the upcoming Spider-Men..Would have liked 616 Peter to look at him confused for a few pages, then hand him a piece of paper and ask him to read it out loud.. "I have had it with these mother...."

I mean, I didn't really get the fuss when he was black back in an early issue of Ultimate X-Men. Hell, I liked it. I thought he was a really cool character - and it's always nice to see more variation, just like I loved gay Colossus and homophobic Kurt. To take another example, I though Michael Clark Duncan at the Kingpin was the best thing about the Daredevil move.

So I'm wondering: who really gives a damn at this stage?

Sam Jackson's Nick Fury is far more decent than the Ultimate version in the comics. That's what matters to me.

I forgot that Utimate Colossus is gay. But who really cares about that anyway?

Mystique into a blue scaled mutant instead of a woman with a skull on her forehead? That was stupid, only lasted a couple months, and was then ignored.

Wolverine with claws between his fingers and not on top?? Him And Sabretooth being brothers instead of Father and son? The position of Wolverine's claws has usually varied based on the artist. And the comics still have Wolverine and Sabretooth being unrelated. Claremont tried to make Sabretooth Logan's father, but that was contradicted that same month in another comic. So canon is they're unrelated.

HAwkeye not being a circus carney and being a Gov't agent? Hasn't transferred to the 616 comics.

Black Widow with no Russian accent whatsoever? Canon, actually. She's long been described as having no accent. That goes back to at least the '70s, and I think even the '60s.

A helicarrier that looks nothing like the traditional one? Meh. Helicarrier designs changing is no big deal.

No Real JArvis with Iron man? Jarvis still exists in the 616 comics.

The movies have made alterations and comics have fell in line since the first caveman drew Superman on limestone.

    People make it an issue.

Kids today are more sophisticated..then we were...You have to adapt or die. I understand nostalgia but sometimes you have to let things go.
I think you might be missing the problem. We don't mind black Fury in the Ultimate comics, or in the movies. Ultimate Nick Fury is awesome, and movie Nick Fury is also awesome. Everyone loves that Fury.

No, what we find stupid, and a little insulting, is Marvel's pathetically shallow attempt to shoehorn black Fury into the 616 comics, in order to capitalize on the movies. They made a 6-issue mini to do that, and to bring in Coulson as a bonus (even though they could've simply, I don't know, had a SHIELD agent named Coulson show up). It was retarded. It was a blatant attempt to cash-in on the movie, even though black Fury is already appearing in the Ultimate line of comics. Presumably, it's out of a desire to grab that semi-mythical "new reader" demographic, despite the fact that, odds are, not one single new reader is actually going to be attracted by making Fury black.

So that means that we normal readers are going to have to suffer through a few months of black Fury popping up in editorially-mandated cameos (it's already started, with the last issue of Scarlet Spider), rolling our eyes every time we see him, because this version is such a stupid, stupid idea to begin with.

The problem isn't change. The problem is that it's a pointless, utterly retarded change, brought on for shallow reasons, and mandated from on-high rather than being something any of the writers actually wanted to do. Oh, I'm sure any writer who uses the character will say it's because they wanted to use him. Some of them might even be telling the truth. Most will be lying. Frankly, I don't think the editors want to use him, either. The people who want to sue him are the marketing people. And when something is done purely for marketing purposes, that thing shouldn't be done.

Change is fine. Change is great. But it has to make sense from a story perspective. This change . . . doesn't.

Yes. This is much sillier than H.E.R.B.I.E. being written into the FF books. Because they never had a 6-issue mini detailing HERBIE's construction and rise to replace the Human Torch as a member of the FF. HERBIE in the comics is a shout-out to HERBIE from the cartoon. Marcus Fury is an idiotic marketing-based attempt to get people to buy a comic to see movie Fury.

HERBIE made it into the comics because a writer decided to use him. Black Fury made it into the comics because an accountant decided writers should use him.

So yes, this is immeasurably sillier.

The Ultimate Universe is an abomination that should not infect 616. I love Nick Fury, but I hate Sam Fury. I was lenient on the moves (though I cringe every time I see Jackson as Fury), even with the cartoon shows, but replacing the original Nick Fury of the 616 universe is something I will not stand for. Marvel and DC want diverse characters? Create diverse characters!!! Don't change classic character just because you are too lazy to create new ones of your own.

That said, I hope the new Sam Fury of 616 is retconned ASAP.

Did anyone get upset with the TV show BATTLESTAR GALACTICA..when BOOMER was changed into an Asian woman? Colonel Ti from a black man with an Uncle Ben's fro to an old white guy? or ADAMA from an old white guy to a old Latin Guy.

    NO...NOT REALLY.

What are you talking about? Cavemen drawing Superman??? And I didn't say anything about the changes movies made in adapting the comics -- that's a given. My problem is comics being changed to match up to the movies. And YES, there was plenty of upset about the recasting of BSG.

As for letting go of nostalgia ... again, go into some of these appreciation threads and tell people bitching about how their favorite character isn't like he / she had been portrayed in the past, and then come talk to me about nostalgia.

lol, I hope he's not running it. They're going through leaders like crazy because no one they pick is qualified. Marcus is awfully young.
Anyway, I think Marcus could be cool if they weren't trying so hard.

What you don't get is that he WAS a Shield agent which Secret Warriors also went to great lengths to show, you're also complaining about things that haven't even happened or even been shown to happen. Everyone is quick to scream murder that he's being fast tracked when so far all that has been shown is that people wanted him dead for being Fury's then unknown son, they kill his mom and he wants revenge/answers to why people want him dead, his bff just so happens to be that guy from the movies( funny that everyone was ok with him until that reveal ), Jr is revealed to be his real name since it's on his birth certificate and he's now a Shield agent which makes sense given what he just went through
