There's a great blog post from Eric Stephenson of Image, talking about the influence of movies and TV on comics.
Eric has some good points but the counter argument, would be that the industry can't live off print a long, and they would be fools to try.

You don't just stick to what you know you branch out and grow.

That is why Batman can make a billion in movies and have one of the best game that has come out. That is why Marvel vs Capcom became a classic but hey that just my opinion.

    NO...NOT REALLY.

I don't like it and never have. Can't say I liked it in Ultimate, but whatever. The movies shouldn't be influenced by the Ultimate stuff to begin with.

I'm all for some black characters if they make sense. However changing someone with as much history as Nick Fury is freaking stupid. Use one of the existing good characters, or hell create someone new.

It's just seems like trying to fulfill a minority quota that shouldn't be there.

but that's what you don't get. Nick is SHIELD. that's what the secret warriors title went great lengths to clarify. no one can do what he does. i'm not against black characters. i'm not against Samuel L Jackson. i love that he's Nick Fury in the Ultimate Universe. i wouldn't mind having that Fury brought over to the main universe; just like i wouldn't mind for Miles to be imported. why? because Ultimate Fury could concievably be as experienced an operator as 616-Fury. but junior here is only now being introduced to the world of superhumans. he's a friggin no0b. he'd have to be alive for a century to even deserve to wear his dad's patch. instead, i can just feel them fast-tracking him already. they are going to burn him out just like they did Parker Robbins. it's embarrassing that creative types would go this route.

I couldn't care less about Fury, but these were dumb, especially how comics Mystique had her ugly ass movie look for a time. WTF were they thinking. Also Scarjo and Ultimate Hawkeye were fail.

also hated the weird scaly Mystique and the weird change to Toad. The stupid new look of Hawkeye is influenced by the movies too I guess?

yes! yes it is very very different from all of that! they didn't make regular Nick Fury into Samuel L Jackson. they made random dude into Samuel L Jackson and then named him Nick Fury. i can fix all of your analogy to demonstrate how ridiculous this all is.

instead of giving Mystique scales they retire Raven, introduce a long lost daughter, give her blue scales, and change her name to Raven

instead of making Clint into a secret agent type, they retire Clint, introduce a long lost son, make him a government agent, and give him the hawkeye name

Ultimate Nick Fury didn't bother me at all. It is a completely different universe. I am sure there is somewhere in the multiverse that Steve Rogers was born as blue skin Kree and Wanda Maximoff actually did marry a toaster.

Movie Fury didn't bother me either. Samuel Jackson is an awesome Fury. In fact, I can hardly think of anyone better. The fact that the Ultimate line already made their Nick Fury look just like Samuel Jackson just made it a no brainer.

Marcus doesn't bother me either. So they are playing on the wildly popular movie? Big deal. Is that any sillier than H.E.R.B.I.E. being written into the FF book? Stuff like this happens all the time, just roll with it. Is it so hard to believe in story that Nick has a black son? The hard part would be believing he only has one. Nick doesn't strike me as being a "safety first" guy and I don't think that he epidermis is the female body part he pays attention to.

Exactly. It's one thing to have Nick's long-lost kid take over for him, it's another to turn him into a clone of the movie guy. It's also a stupid idea because it pisses off Marvel's current customers and won't attract movie fans (because if a decade's worth of extremely successful Marvel films couldn't do it, this isn't gonna).

Nope. It's hard to believe that at the end of his origin story, he comes out looking (and most likely acting) exactly like Samuel L. Jackson. That's a bit too contrived for me. You wanna have Nick Fury's half-black son running SHIELD? Okay, it could work... or not. Still, worth a shot. You wanna shoehorn a movie character into the regular books? I really doubt it'll go ahywhere.
