Why Can't The Amazons Have Technology?

Was it an element that was actually used, though?
Because Jimenez's run is.....fairly recent, and I don't remember seeing any tech from the Amazons in what I read from Rucka and Simone (and I don't really in what I read from Jimenez either, but I only read until the death of Hyppolita).

The leap in weapon tech seemed to come only during the buildup to Infinite Crisis.

Nope, Phil was responsible. It was surprising to see machine guns and bulldozers used during Paradise Lost the Amazon civil war, but it was a nice surprise.



Then he came up with the invisible chariots and shields during the death of Hippolyta in the Imperiex war based on this...





Themyscira was destroyed during that battle and was reborn as floating islands with traditional Greek architecture mixed with Lansinarian tech buildings.



While beautiful it was thought to be too fanciful by some fans was dubbed "My Little Pony Island" by a well known poster. When Rucka took over from Phil the first thing he did was to have a jealous Hera kick Themyscira into the sea. No lives were lost but the Lansinarian tech was depleted holding back the resulting tidal wave and all that remained was the jet. We didn't see much of the Amazons in his run until the end where they were attacked by Brother Eye's OMACS in retaliation for the death of Maxwell Lord. The Amazons were forced to alter the Purple Healing Ray technology that regenerated and repaired organic matter into the Purple Death Ray that destroyed it.

On two separate occasions the U.S. government has tried to coerce the Amazons into handing over the plans on how to create their own Purple Ray technology, the latter of which included the illegal prison detainment and physical torture of Wonder Woman.

In the Secret Six comic an Amazon was introduced who oversaw the maintenance of the Purple Ray. She began wounding herself to see how thorough the Purple Ray could heal, each time wounding herself more seriously. Eventually she was able to grow whole limbs back once severed. After many years she discovered she no longer needed to use the Purple Ray as her wounds began to heal themselves due to prolonged exposure to the ray.

During Gail's run the Amazons were without technology except for the Purple Healing Ray (that I don't recall being actually shown but referenced) and the magical Hephaestus Cannon that was used against sea monsters that were attacking the island and slaughtering the Megalogon sharks that protected the waters surrounding it. During this period the Amazons had access to Giants, Chimera, Hydra, Styngian Hornets and other mythological animals that were used in Amazons Attack for their offensive and defensive capabilities.

So they have lasers and cannons but i still see arrows and swords. That doesnt even make sense.

As I said, it was the merging of two cultures in the post-Crisis universe - classic Amazons + Bana. Add to that the Lansinarian technology Diana was given, and you get a very potent and, imo, fun and interesting mix.

If I'm not mistaken, the magical beasts were added during Amazon's attack, prior to Gail's takeover of the book. She just added the way-cool sharks ;)

That's correct, however once the Bana relocated to the island the Themysciran Amazons became tech savvy too.

This is what I hope will happen if the male Amazons, or at least some of them, relocate to Paradise Island in this continuity. And the women can teach their brothers to be warriors.

Sry to point out, but I cant see any modern weapons in that particular shot.
Side note, Perez gave us interior looks of how the Bana weapon factories looked like, since they had upgraded their weapons and was selling them off.

Correct me if I am wrong but weren't all of those just bits of the Wonder Dome (or whatever Diana flying fortress was called) which was an alien artifact rather than Amazon tech?

It was Lansinarian tech which wasn't really tech at all but a sentient alien life form that could morph into any crystalline shape. Tired of being treated like an inanimate tool it went rogue during Eric Luke's run. After it was subdued by Superman, Batman and Wonder Woman it apologized to Diana by morphing into her flying fortress called the Wonderdome.







The Dome had invisible chariots that transported friends and allies to the main structure, but they weren't shown in mass or used by the Amazons until Phil's run.

As for the picture I posted of Paradise Lost I was only showing you the cover so you'd know what to look for, the machine guns and bulldozers were inside.

Yep, she was just continuing from where Amazons Attack left off, but she didn't actually show the beasts during her run. There was an off hand comment about cleaning out their stables though. The Hephaestus Cannon was fully her idea but it was only seen once.
