I would actually pay real money to see Daken try to steal Tony away from Pepper.....
Cyclops ad portas
10 years ago... or better said, 1 month before SM1 was released, no one thought it was gonna be breaking any records and most "experts" were saying it probably wouldn't hit the top ten of the year, mainly because X-Men did like 150million and considering they used to sell much, much more comics than Spidey, it was a logic thing to say Spider-Man movie would have a great run if it got there, but far, far from Episode II (which was expected to beat Titanic), Potter, LOTR, MIB2, Spielberg had 2 movies out (Catch me if you can and Minority Report) and the usual Disney toon that was supposed to be the next Lion King; and back then Night M. S. was the golden boy and Sings was going to beat the Sixt Sense, so there were plenty of 300 million hopefuls while Spidey was supposed to do half of that money...
...and we know how it ended... even with a poor marketing from SONY, no bankable star (heck, everyone was complaining big time about the leads) and the hype falling on other movies, Spidey did it. Will history repeat itself? Hardly, in some way, Avengers did repeated the history this time since no one saw it coming that it would do THAT much... but Spidey always does better as the underdog, if it is a crowd-pleaser,. my guess is it will sell more tickets than SM3 so it might get close to Avengers, and probably beat it world wide, but we'll have to wait...

Some of my friends, who followed every Spidey Movie wont go, because they dont want to see another origin. I will see it first day, because i am a fanboy, for life. I would rather see a part 4 with the Lizard and Garfield as lead actor, like how the Bond movies work. Get a new actor, but go on with the story. Curt Connors was already established...
There is no buzz over here, you dont hear much from it, so i think it will do X-Men First class level, no more.
"And in a few years, some rebellious little kid is going to turn up at your school with me on his t-shirt. 'Cyclops was right.'"
Whoever thinks that Sony isn't doing a brilliant job marketing The Amazing Spider-Man doesn't have a single clue how this kind of thing works. They've waited for The Avengers to land and destroy everything on its path and now they're hitting hard promoting this and it is paying off. If you want any proof, The Amazing Spider-Man had less fans than TDKR one month ago in Facebook. Now they've doubled the number of TDKR fans and at the pace it's going, it will get to July with the same number of fans than The Avengers.
There is a buzz. And it's growing at a vertiginous speed. Having the trailers attached to The Avengers raised the awareness and interest on this film through the roof. I find it silly reading on a Spider-Man board that there is no buzz for this. Maybe some fans here like Orpheus just want a Miles Morales film so much that they are blind to see it, but there is a buzz and I wouldn't be surprised if Spider-Man got better box office numbers than TDKR, since it's a film that appeals to families, kids and girls in ways that TDKR never could. It all depends of the next weeks and how good is the buzz when the first impressions of the press and advanced screenings start to hit. Will it make The Avengers numbers? Hell no, no other movie will do that this year. But TDKR has some serious competition with The Amazing Spider-Man. Taking in account that it's a reboot against the end of a trilogy, that's quite impressive.
I like your way of thinking, sir, but I'd have to say you're wrong this time about Sony's marketing for this. They'll get a hell of a boost from The Avengers crowd alone, but they are doing quite a good job this time. In Facebook and GetGlue, The Amazing Spider-Man is king, and it's growing on twitter too. The awareness and buzz for this is growing, and growing fast. Let's just hope that the film deserves all that, it's clear to me that from the trailers alone, it does.
