I believe it can but its gonna b real close... i see it opening in the $180-200 range opening weekend.. the factor of not having 3D will hurt.. the length of film will also play a factor since i believe it will be longer then avengers..
but with $21 IMAX tickets it has a chance. i know ill see it twice opening wkend.

I think it will do very well. Beat Avengers? That's a tall order. I would say no.

I wouldn't count it out. One there's IMAX screenings and those are not cheap. Two it's sold as a conclusion and that's going to drive people in. Three it's not really a competitive summer, Avengers has been the only massive hit so far and everything else has been underperforming so far and by the time DKR hits the screen Avengers will be off a majority of the screens. The closest competitor is Spider-man and that is just not generating as much enthusiasm. Once released it could play through the fall.

And a good portion of the audience who saw the Avengers will probably see this.

Now if the movie is a disappointment that's another story (and that may be the case).

It's not misrepresenting that confused me. I was just confused since both of us said worldwide and then the text that you quoted also said worldwide which were what I claimed and he estimated. It seemed like a disconnect.

If it doesn't, I will be very disappointed. I don't think that it'll beat The Avengers, but I think that it'll do pretty damn good.

I was sloppy. I just sorta assumed that everybody knew about Box Office Mojo because I'd been there so many times. I was checking it on almost a daily basis when The Dark Knight came out.

IMO, it might beat the Avengers but Avatar or Titanic, NO.

I actually think it won't come even close to beat Avengers, but that doesn't mean it won't do very well. My bet is that it's box office will eventually end up between Batman Begins and The Dark Knight. Probably closer to the TDK figures than Batman Begins, but won't beat them.

TDKR is already projected to make 185M. And we're only in May/June. Avengers projected was 136M 2 months BEFORE it came out. That's until it had mass marketing a few weeks before it came out. And it did 200 plus. You can bet WB will market the crap out of TDKR and use it's CONCLUSION like Lord Of The Rings.

ALL the screenings have been POSITIVE and some say it's even BETTER than Batman Begins or TDK. I got this quote from another board you might find interesting...

This is what is known from the person (From SHH) who was at the WB screening:

    1) TDKR Is far superior to TDK

    2) Bane has such a strong presence that makes you almost forget the Joker even existed

    3) The Film did indeed get a Standing Ovation

    4) Grown Men came out of the viewing crying...its an absolutely emotional ending

    5) There's quite a bit of action compared to the previous films, but that it doesn't overshadow the immense heart and depth of the story

    6) Full story is told with more-than-adequate depth, development and conclusion in the WB cut

    7) He be shocked if WB marketed a Bane Mask replica towards children, considering the purpose of the mask in the film. (When he was told about the bane mask in the halloween costumes he replied) "Yeah, that's awful. I mean, it's always fun to be a baddie for Halloween, but Bane? That mask is literally part of what makes him a villain. It's like including the Joker's knives with his costumes. I would say it's a wrong move."

    8) Compared to the avengers its apples and oranges. The source loved Avengers and he was blown away by TDKR. It's hard to compare, though - they're quite different . He said they're both rollercoaster rides, but TDKR is kind of like a really creaky, old coaster where you feel it could fall apart at any second (and that's a good thing...it's similar to TDK in that it builds and builds, and it's scary. The analogy works because you do end up at that safe place. But the ride itself is exciting and unpredictable.) where Avengers was more of a solid-but-exciting ride. They're nothing at all alike.

I think the movie will do well, but The Dark Knight Rises will be competing in the heart of the summer box office season, against movies like The Amazing Spider-Man and such. I don't think it has much of a chance to do Avengers-type numbers.

I think it all depends on how good it is. The Avengers was good but it isn't oscar worthy performance. The fact that it isn't in 3D is good b/c the more cheaper it is the more times ppl will go to see it. I saw The Avengers in 3D it sucked, 3D should have never been additional feature.

Oh my goodness! A Justice League movie would be phenominal wouldn't it! I heard they were in the process of possibly making one. Hopeful is all I can be.

    Cheers,

Ok, your quote, officially has me excited. I hope that wasn't all hyperbole.

That's actually a good point. I loved Avengers, but I've only seen it once (in 3D). Where as I saw The Dark Knight 4 times in the theater, one of those viewings was in IMAX.

I don't think it will beat the Avengers but I think it'll sell more than a billion dollars still.

Dark Knight Rises probably won't be Oscar worthy either.

It wasnt trying to be an oscar film. I dont see how that factors into anything.

Honestly, I'm not sure. The Dark Knight Rises has been waited for for a while now. I'm not sure it's got enough hype to beat the Avengers though. I mean, the Avengers was built up to with a bunch of individual movies since 2008 or earlier. The Dark Knight Rises is one movie of a trilogy.

Still, it could surprise us all. I just think it's too early to tell.
