    Default Smallville: S11, Ep.1, Ch.5 Discussion (Spoilers)

Another good chapter, although not much happened. I could see this as the scene just before the 30 minute commercial break.

Looks like a woman who crashed down in Smallville ("Where else would anything land?"). She knows of Superman. Kara, perhaps? Or maybe someone new? Impossible to tell. If it is Kara, one wonders why she needed a ship. Did she spend time with the Legion, learning about Superman, and lost her powers along the way? All speculation at this point, but I like where things are heading.

The main cast are still written true to the show, and is a pleasure to read. I liked the scene with Lex & Olliver, although I worry about them tipping their hands to Lex too soon.

Henshaw is a nice addition so far, and it's cool to see him as a nice guy when we know how he ultimately ends up (character-wise, if not in looks). Adds weight to what he lost.

    Thoughts?

What does happen to Henshaw? I've not read any of the solicits but from what I've heard, he doesn't become Cyborg Superman. Any idea if he becomes a cyborg at all?

You know, at first, I was going to be annoyed because Ollie did the same thing as Lois did last week in telling the super-genius criminal mastermind that he's looking into one specific crime that he didn't have any evidence of whatsoever, but then I realized...it's Oliver Queen. I know he's different in the show, but the classic hothead Ollie never saw a mistake that he didn't like to pull. Still doesn't excuse Lois, though.

Anyway, the last page reveal was pretty interesting. Curious to see who it is, though it is likely to be Supergirl.

Considering that a whole page was given to him talking about how much he loves his sense of touch, I think him becoming a cyborg is more than likely. Now that I think about it--did the show have a Metallo? They could decide to just combine the two.

Yep! Metallo first appeared in season nine.

    This was so freaking good!

Ah. Well then, it's probable that he'll become a cyborg "super man," but he won't look like the Cyborg Superman of the comic.

Brian Austin Green was pretty awesome as Metallo. I also liked their versions of the Toyman and Zod. In fact, I'd say all the principle Superman villians that appeared on Smallville were pretty well done (yes, even Doomsday) aside from Mxyzptlk, which I don't even acknowledge as the "real" deal. Looking back, it's amazing what they accomplished in the last few seasons with the shrinking budget it had. Most of those villains made their debut's in the "lean" years (Seasons #7-10).

Great new installment. That and SUPERMAN BEYOND have moved up to the top of my monthly/weekly Superman reading. Yes, even higher than SUPERMAN and ACTION. While the later two are still enjoyable for what they are, they still feel too much like an Elseworlds version of Superman to me. These two books (or strips) just feel more right to me.

I know we've already gone through this, but Lois doesn't need any excuses, imo. She was trying to get under Lex's skin and catch him off balance. She was testing Lex and attempting to distract him enough to see if he'd spill new information. Her goal wasn't to nail him for Tess's murder. Lois has tried tactics similar to this in the past and was ultimately successful at uncovering the truth. Besides, all she asked Lex to do was account for himself during the period of time between when he was declared dead and when Tess died. That's a relevant question and the answer was something the public deserved to know. Lois never came straight out and accused Lex of murder.

    Toyman was diabolical!

I loved all of Smallville's adaptations, except Mxy. IDK what the hell they were thinking with that.

I agree except for a select few(Mxy, Livewire, Nuetron and kind of Parasite/Rudy Jones) Smallville wass always good with the potrayal of the superheroes and supervillians (Metallo, Brainiac, Toyman, Zod and Lex Luthor were my favorite villians and to me the some of the most accurate versions of some versions of the comic couterpart).

I just have 1 question I have to ask Brian Q Millar: will we ever see the Legion of Doom/Marriotte Venture members(Black Manta, Metallo, Captain Cold, Solomon Grundy) from Prophecy or JL Members(Bart/Impulse/Flash, Aquaman, Cyborg, Black Canary, etc) ever again

I almost forgot about livewire, and the rest. those were weak. I just choose to ignore that episode and DOOMSDAY (the lowpoints in the series IMO).

I also would like to see Venture/Legion of Doom...under the leadership of "MockingBird" aka Lex Luthor!

I don't remember going through it, but I have slept since then.

My thinking is this: Lex Luthor is a criminal mastermind--the kind of super-genius that covers all his angles and thinks three moves ahead of every choice he makes. Lois probably knows this. So I'm thinking if I wanted to pin such a man to a murder, I wouldn't want him to know I was even thinking about it until I had substantial evidence to it--now that he knows that's what he's trying to do, he'll be looking for her trying to figure things out and would find ways to try to stop her.

All she did was ask where he was during the time he was declared dead. That's hardly a neon sign pointing to the fact that she's investigating Tess's murder with him in mind as the prime suspect.

Enjoyable read, even though like the OP pointed out, not "much" happened but I guess it's to be expected from now on since all the catching up has already been taken care of. Can't wait next friday's chapter to see who the mysterious being is that came out of the spaceship.
Pull List: Batman, Demon Knights, Smallville Season 11, Wonder Woman.
