    Default Amazing Spider-Man #686 *SPOILERS*

So, whether or not you heeded Slott's plea not to read this issue's preview, you gotta wonder what Spidey and Co's next step is. What we saw in an earlier wordless preview is Sable weeping over her homeland, but that's just the start.
    spoilers:
Spidey stubbornly wants to rescue civilians in harm's way but the pragmatic Widow wants them to move on to the untouched hemisphere and track down Ock. Horizon tries to unclock the satellites but fails, and uses Uatu's idea to track down Ock himself next time he transmits a message. Meanwhile, Mysterio revels with Chameleon in the burning Earth illusion he pulled off, and they send a full-sized Ock in armor replica with Chameleon at the helm. This displeases Ock himself who wants to fight Spidey personally. Sable, still in grief, takes down "Ock", and the gig is up, but Ock remotely takes over and continues the fight. Spidey stops it a second time, reveals his awareness of the illusion to Widow and Cable. Widows talks Chameleon into submission, and Spidey convinces Mystie to bring them to Ock on the grounds that his $2 billion will mean nothing when the Earth burns. Cut to MJ buying the office space where the old WAKE existed (I guessed it right before) for a party she plans to throw a friend. JJJ Sr.'s call to Jonah is cut short as Aunt May also worries why Peter doesn't reply to her calls as theu both want to contact their families in this harrowing time. Back to Spidey, Mystie leads them to his set in Guatemala (complete with a step-pyramid), which is an homage to the Maya prophecies. Ock knocks their plane down and they confront the Octobot-controlled Avengers, Ock's new Sinister Six. As the melee starts, Spidey realizes that all the tech Ock used was based on tech he designed at Horizon which Ock modified, and he blames himself for all the mess

I think I love this story. Way outclasses Spider-Island, which I found kind of underwhelming. Everyone complaining about the "goblin tech" in the first issue should have realized that wasn't just a throwaway scene. This story is showing us how things made for bad can be used for good, and now, vice versa. Can "bad" people like Ock also do good? Can a "good" person like Spidey do more harm when trying to do good?

i think i'm beginning to know what will happen in 700.

spider-man blames himself for the tech doc ock uses,
will blame himself for making aunt may worried or worse,
will blame himself for lizard and morbius showdown, and so on.

    Resulting to 'amazing spider-man 700 : no more spider-man '

I disliked the final revelation and really hope Petey will not continue this line of thought in the next issue. Aside that, Mysterio stole the show. ;)

Yeah, I can't say I'm a big fan of Spider-Man once again finding a way to blame himself for everything, but Dog is right in that it really does put that too-clever-by-half Goblin rider scene from the first issue in a new light. You can use any of these things for good or evil, you think Spider-Man would recognize that, genius that he is.

This has been a fun story. It doesn't have any of the heart or free-wheeling energy that Spider-Island had, but I'm enjoying this. Can't wait for the final issue.

He will problably guilty out and request disconection from horizon labs, or jjj will find out somehow that HL tech was used by dock and will think he was right all along and shut them for good.

    Spidey isnt too smart
    spoilers:
He's more upset that he created all the tech Doc Ock is using and not noticing that Doc Ock is specifically ripping off Peter Parker's tech. Maybe Doc Ock knows something...like who Spider-man is. I wouldnt be surprised if he really is dying
    end of spoilers
Decided to not read posts that contain the words marriage, OMD, BND, and Mephisto. Why? I'm tired of it.

I thought it was a good issue, although the "twist" was somewhat obvious and always will be when Mysterio is involved. I'm OK with Spidey falling for it, since he had tunnel vision. I love the idea of Spidey and Mysterio teaming up in a way that doesn't feel contrived, although it bugs me that the hook Pete used hadn't already dawned on Beck.
His memory's gone! Or...is it? It's not hard to fake amnesia! The Goblin is capable of anything!

I really enjoyed this issue, although two point still stick in my craw. To get them out of the way: Jonah is still being a huge prick for no given reason. Granted, he's always a huge prick, but he usually has (misguided) logic behind it. But from hassling Horizon to giving his dad the cold shoulder, the guy's just been a jackbag this whole story. Also, as other have pointed out, the ending note is rather lame, particularly considering it follows the awesome (if expected) reveal of the Sinister Sixvengers. (Could this be leading up to the big 7-0-0? The Spider-Armor Wars?)

Other than that, this issue hit all the high notes. The Mysterio/Chameleon ploy was brilliant in its simplicity, and the interaction between them, and all the other small factions, was great. I particularly like the way Mysterio's been written this arc; he's an egomaniac and a diva, but a pragmatic egomaniac and diva. (Contrasted to Ock, who is decidedly unpragmatic, as he proudly displays.)

The only thing that concerns me is that next issue has a lot of loose ends to tie up dramatically. We still don't know Ock's true goals, or what he promised the Rhino. Horizon clearly has one more part to play. (Speaking of, does Stone ever actually contribute to the Brain Trust? Dude just whines a lot.) And we have the final Ock/Spidey showdown, obviously. I'm just hoping part VI keeps the good momentum going. Hoping and eagerly awaiting.
