Default OT: The Art of Brave

I don't quite know how to process this tweet:
did you guys know that Mike did some early work on Brave? Check out this book to see what he did... http://fb.me/1qeZmwV5c
Mike Mignola on a Disney/Pixar film. Um... wow. I'm tempted to get the book just to see what he did, but it's probably like one tiny sketch in a corner of a page.

Cool, I'll have to check it out in the store, see what's in it. I've been looking for an 'Art of Atlantis' book just for Mike's artwork.
He was the sort of person who stood on mountaintops during thunderstorms in wet copper armour shouting "All the Gods are bastards".

I personally love "Art of..." books.
I love the whole process and conceptual stage.
This one looks cool as well.

Same. Pre-ordered this one a long time ago. Although, surprisingly, the best "Art of..." book I have isn't of a film, but of a TV series. The Art of Avatar: The Last Airbender is an incredibly dense book. It's well worth checking out. I wish I had The Art of Tarzan (Glen Keane!) and The Art of Kung Fu Panda (the colour keys alone were stunning).

I have the "Avatar" book as well...that book is a monster but oh so great.
Don't have the Tarzan but have the Kung Fu Panda and it is cool.
Dreamworks along with Disney have put out some terrific books.
The Marvel ones are awesome also.

I'm jealous. I was strapped for cash when that one came out, by the time I could afford it, it was out of print and well over a hundred dollars to buy.

Picked it up right before it sold out at Amazon.

And to stay on topic...Mike did indeed work on BRAVE for a couple days.
Cannot wait to see his contributions.

Huh, interesting... definitely intrigued now. Thanks for the heads-up.

And to go right back off topic (and plug shamelessly ), there's also The Art and Making of ParaNorman:

I doubt that it'll be in the book, but Guy Davis did some concept zombie work early on. I got to see his stuff, and it was awesome (of course).

Shameless plug or not, it's very welcome. Gonna go put that on my wish list...

Paranormon looks like a blast, I'll be checking that book out to be sure.

Is there an art of Atlantis book? I'd love to see that.

All I could find was an illustrated screenplay: http://www.amazon.com/Atlantis-Empir...7745906&sr=1-1

I wasn't really a fan of the film, but I still ended up buying the two-disc DVD for the behind-the-scenes stuff. Really beautiful work on that film.

I miss tradition 2D animation so much.

I believe this is what I have, it has a bunch of concept art of Mignola's in it. Or at least the book I have has the same cover as this, with art in it..

    I have that too!
A snug Dark Horse 'Atlantis: the Lost Empire' comic TPB, with Mignola cover plus an 8-page commented Mignola sketchbook section, from 2001. Very great stuff.

I believe there was some sort of Art of hardcover / coffeetable-book as well as a Disney ficticeous travelguide-thing, but I never tracked those down. Except for a 'Disney summer magazine' containing a Mignola cover plus article.

Been called a 'good egg'. Been told to rock, been told to steady myself. Been told to (please) be goin' places.
Chillingly good stuff besides Mignola, Slint, M, Knut and really big chunks of tinfoil?

It's worth pointing out, in my opinion, that Vera Brosgol - creator of last year's excellent Anya's Ghost - works for Laika as a storyboarder and as such it may have her work in it. Yay!
