Default KAPOW 2012: Cup o' Joe

Joe Quesada's traditional Cup o' Joe panel arrived in London for Kapow 2012, where Joe Quesada, Mark Millar and more discussed an "Avengers Vs. X-Men" movie, digital comics and the point of the Ultimate Universe.

So I take it to mean that something is definitely happening on the Ant-man front.

I'd love to see a Jesus vs. Silver Surfer comic done entirely in crayon.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

I guess the Ant Man movie has about as much hope as the Justice League movie at this point. Too bad because Marvel should definitely explore some of their lesser known character. It can only help their market.

Also, I'm glad to hear that the Punisher is now back under Marvel's wing. I don't think that series has really gotten a definitive movie yet. While I was among those who really loved the Tom Jane version, I think that movie was underfunded and underdone. There's definitely more that can be done and I hope Marvel plans to do something with that property.

But what I found to be disappointing was Quesada's assessment of the Ultimate universe. It was once a novel, fresh take on Marvel's famous characters. But now it seems like this dirty sandbox where writers can do whatever they want without reprocussion. That to me sounds like code for killing characters they can't kill in 616. I think that's a horrible premise for a series and it's been showing in the sales charts. Just because Marvel can do something in Ultimate doesn't mean they should. If killing Spider-Man and all the other characters they killed in Ultimate was a bad idea for 616, then it's a bad idea for Ultimate as well. To just treat it as a dirty sandbox is essentially giving up on the series and I think the fans of Ultimate deserve better.

Punisher should lead the charge in a lower-budget Marvel Knights-type film line. Violent grindhouse stuff.

That's pretty much what the last 2 PUNISHER movie were, and they were far from box office blockbusters.

Yeah, marvel probably has to be really careful about the next Punisher movie. Another even mediocre performing one, and it'll basically kill the franchise at least as far as movie goers are concerned.

Maybe they should at least give Punisher a cameo in another movie before giving him his own, to help out a bit. Maybe show up in the Captain America movie or something.

It'll probably never be a blockbuster, which is why you go in with a lower budget. At the very least, you get a cult hit and make most of your cash on the DVD release.
