Just saw Battleship (wasn't to bad, no Avengers, but if you could watch Transformers you'll like it).
So What if, instead of the US and Japanese Navies, It was the SHIELD Helicarrier (film version), could they defeat the Aliens? They have Nick Fury, Maria Hill, Agent Coulson, as well as All the Avengers except Thor and the Hulk, but Warmachine tagged along as well, (where was he in the Avengers?)

First, they defeat the aliens. Then, for some reason, the Helicarrier crashes. Spectacularly.

Well yeah it is, (hence the name Battleship) but what it was, wasn't that bad, if you can enjoy it for what it is, dumb action movie, with cool effects and battle scenes (like Transformers). Originally Posted by Deadman25

We have no idea what kind of firepower is on the SHIELD Helicarrier.
The Hulk alone was tearing the place to pieces before Thor intervened, I can't imagine what one or two of the shredder balls would have done.When criminals want to scare one another they tell each other Joker stories.

The carrier had F-35s, IIRC - with nukes. I assume they had more than one. Boom. We also saw quite a few fighters on deck. We didn't see the Aliens have any significant antiaircraft defenses. The sinking big ship (granted it was sinking) got bombed. The spinning wheels were shot down when someone had planes in the air.
If the US forces were up to speed, they shouldn't have a problem. True, the aliens didn't show on radar but visually aimed bombs and missiles should do it.
If the carrier has it's own weapons - not mentioned in the movie. The Alien ships didn't have any resistance to rather conventional arms.
The Avengers in the OP aren't really relevant.
