Its not a big flop though. Its just a minor flop. It made brought in 22 million more than its production budget. It will end up losing money once you take out theater cut and marketing costs but that still leaves it in minor flop range. Its highly disappointing but thats not the same thing as being a major flop. Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance is a good example of what I'm talking about it. Some perceive it as a flop even though it made $132 million on a $57 million budget. So it made money even after theater cuts yet it will be viewed as a disappointment but it can't credibly be considered a flop.

Mars Needs Moms, another Disney film, is an example of a film that is both a major flop and highly disappointing. It made only $38 million worldwide on a $150 million budget. And thats before theater cut and marketing costs. It lost much more money than John Carter is going to lose for them.

It's a hugh flop, they spent another $100 million on top of the production budget, and even if they didn't, the movie making just 22 million over it's humongous production budget makes it a big flop. I don't see how you aren't getting his? John Carter wasn't like some little $15 million movie that made $22 million over it's budget, it was a hugh blockbuster they expected to make tons of money.

No one is saying Mars Needs Moms wasn't a flop, I don't get why you keep bring it up. Just because that's also a big flop doesn't somehow mean John Carter wasn't also a huge flop. Mars Needs Moms may not even have hurt them as much a John Carter, it was a joint venture between Disney and ImageMovers, John Carter was all Disney.

And speaking of Battleship , the movie tumbled big time and dropped 58% its second week for a 2 week total of $44+ million US domestic. The film will be lucky to make $65 million by the time its done here. Overseas the film has done $232 million.

Yeah 40 million BO numbers in US is more money than the film makes in the rest of the world.

Its funny how some fans think hollywood people only count the money a film makes in US. The world wide BO doesnt count because its not here....

Its been brought up here and said that the overseas box office has grew so much in years , it can make a film a hit. It didn't happen with John Carter. Time will tell if it does it for Battleship . But it was joked before Avengers even opened here...it was already a hit film once it opened overseas.

I meant with Battleship. John Carter is big time flop everywhere because the film cost too much. It would have to be Avengers numbers to be a regular BO hit. John Carter is classic SF and not marvel new superhero film.

I mean here and other threads. People talk about Avengers,TDK BO like they made 500 million dollars and not a billion with world wide BO. Too much US domestic BO focus. We live in much more bigger world BO,global film market wise.

Studios usually get less of a cut of overseas box office, though that can vary wildly. So a good opening outside the U.S. doesn't necessarily mean it covers the losses. A great, blockuster run is another story, though.

Well with John Carter bombing and then Battleship (sorry folks final estimates have it barely over $300 million worldwide now) Taylor Kitsch had to be worried. His new film Savages though had one thing going for it. The budget wasn't huge. No... the budget for Savages was $45+ million . The opening week was $16.1 million for the film. This one could actually be the only film Kitsch does this year that actually will break even. Saving him from a 3 films , 3 bombs in 2012 .
