Default Favorite Versions of Each Flash

Jay Garrick: This one is probably too early to tell but as much as I will miss the old wiser Jay the new E2 Jay has me intrigued.

Barry Allen: I am surprised but I like the new 52 version over the old bland version of Barry.

Wally West: No contest between MIA Wally & the old Wally...I really miss the character. The Wally Flash series was amazing.

Bart Allen: Impulse vs Kid Flash vs New Kid Flash. Impulse with Max & Jay as mentors.

Red face Wally West is the best!

Wally West was the Flash when I started reading comics (or at least buying my own)back in the early '90's, so he's my Flash. The best stories of his era were Year One, the Return of Barry Allen (secretly Reverse Flash...Shh!), Terminal Velocity, and Dead Heat. Damn this new DCU for getting rid of him. The last time we saw him, he was getting killed in the Flashpoint universe. Shame. If he ever returned to the Flash comic, I might start buying it again.

Max Mercury, the Zen Master of Speed!!!! That guy was awesome. He was the original Quicksilver, and ten times better than the yutz over at Marvel with the name nowadays. He really was awesome.I suppose there's no room for old folks in the new DCU, huh?

Kid Flash/Impulse, or at least how he briefly appeared in the early half of John's run on Teen Titans. He read the contents of an entire library, and since he had an eidetic(photographic) memory, he never forgot what he read, which should have made him a living computer. To my knowledge, none of that was ever mentioned or utilized again. The new Kid Flash seems dumber than a box of hammers.

XS, Jessie Quick, Impulse II(Iris West, Wally's daughter)...just a handful of speedsters relegated to limbo by the reboot who never really got a chance to shine. I was hoping that the Speed Force/All-Flash/Flash Family book that was supposed to come out ages ago would feature them all, but I suppose the reboot scuttled that.
Thus do I write the first chapter of my new scripture. And the first verse is "Let it all burn."

Jay Garrick- as of right now Geoff Johns from the JSA, but it could be changing with James Robinson's Earth Two.
    Barry Allen- The New 52
Wally West- Geoff Johns run, especially when Hal as The Spectre erased the memory of everyone knowing he was The Flash and loved Geoff's story with Zoom (Hunter Zolomon).
Bart Allen- Did not like Bart Allen as The Flash.

Jay Garrick written by Johns in JSA.

Barry Allen written by Manapul/Buccellato in his current series.

Bart Allen written by Peter David in Young Justice.

Wally West written by William Messner-Loebs in his old series.
Comic Books are fun, Comic Book fans not so much.

For me my favourite Flashes are as follows:

Jay Garrick - For NOW its Geoff Johns' version, particularly around the PRINCES OF DARKNESS saga (also amongst my favourite Alan Scott G.L stories) but that could easily be replaced by Robinson's EARTH-2 take if he continues as he did in #1
Barry Allen - CRISIS ON INFINITE EARTHS (No, not because it got rid of him! I happen to think its the most interesting the character has been)
Wally West - This is hard because there's SO MUCH good stuff with him, but I would probably have to give it to Geoff Johns, over Waid (JUST!)
Bart Allen - I know I am in a *very* lonely minority but I actually liked where Guggenheim was taking him before he had to be killed off (I LIKE Bart as Kid Flash but enjoyed his Flash period to)

    Cheers.

    James.

Jay Garrick:Earth 2 looks interesting enough but Johns Jay is mine so far.
Bart Allen-Smallville, Something About makes him my favorite my Favorite Flash above the comics Flashes sometimes
Barry Allen-tie between New 52(Both Geoff Johns JL and Manapul/Buccellato in his current series) and DC: The New Frontier
Wally West-Superman The animated series/JL/JLU Wally

Jay Garrick - The Elder Statesman from 90s-00s Flash and Geoff Johns' JSA.
Barry Allen - I really like the Barry that sacrificed himself in the Crisis, but he's never really interested me in continuity until the New 52. Now he's one of my favorite characters. IF we're talking out of continuity, DC New Frontier version. And I enjoyed Waid's take in JLA:YO.
Wally West - There are very few dark spots in the entirety of volume 2, which was all focused on Wally. My favorite was probably Waid's (first run). It was the transition between Wally being a jerk and Wally being Barry Lite. It got the balance perfect.
Bart Allen - Definitely Waid, but a case could be made for Peter David in Young Justice.

Wally West: everything including the animated Justice League stories save for the first year with Baron and preferably before Identity Crisis...with the exception of the holiday and Retro books. (The only things I downright loathed off hand were Flash #9 with The Intervention Scene and his death in Flashpoint.) Wally is the first character that made me sit up and notice comic books and the only one that made me want to purchase them and explore other parts of DC. With his absence...I'm an observer of DC and not a purchaser while they make excuses. Can and will keep that up for as long as they do because I was born stubborn and that's no exaggeration. (Am currently purchasing Marvel despite the pretty new Flash art.)

Jay: elder statesman with savvy and some good moves. As with Wally, I don't care who his writing him as long as he is cool under fire and full of wisdom.

Bart: Impulse and Young Justice. Bart was best when he was fun. Once he got as angst-filled as everyone else I stopped paying attention.

Max: hands down...Waid. Max the wise guru to the wacky Impulse and conflicted Wally.

Barry....despite the current regime's seeming attempt to make me hate this character...I don't. My favorite Barry was COIE, like someone else said, not because he died, but because he was willing to die to save everything else. Liked Barry best when he was a bit shy as Barry, but confident as Flash.

Jessie: Terminal Velocity. Gal had spunk.

Johnnie: hardly got to see him before he was off to the Speed Force. May never forgive GJ for deep-sixing the man even there.

Jay: James Robinson portrayal in Starman and the early JSA issues. Johns is also solid most of the time - it`s te speedster he knows how write better, IMO.

Barry: What I`ve read from the Nu52 is pretty great. Other than that, I really like Darwyn Cooke`s portrayal in New Frontier, the earlier stuff from Cary Bates and COIE.

Wally: Waid, no contest here. I also love the brief "Morrison/Millar" run, Bill Messner Loebs run, his portrayal in Morrison`s JLA, BUT Mark Waid is the greatestwriter for this particular character in my eyes. There`s a certain "voice", some pretty particular internal dialogue that Waid not only created, but executed better than anone else since and that pretty much defined the character for me.

Bart: Well, I have to go with Mark Waid here, also giving props to Peter David for capturing the exact characterization in "Young Justice". From "Teen Titans" onward, what made Bart unique was watered down o the point where he wasn`t recognizable (or worse,, fun) anymore.

Jay: Don't really know. E2 is the first time he ever seemed to act any differently than he used to. The jury's still out on that, though.

Barry: JLA: Year One. The quiet, methodical and kind of shy introvert.

Wally: I'm going to say Teen Titans: Year One. Wally never did much for me otherwise. He's usually just a more emotional version of Barry.

Bart: Waid or David writing Impulse. Forget that Kid Flash nonsense.
