Now that's a word that is not used much. Yep, a hell of a great book. This is the Morrison that I enjoy...and miss.

I actually think a lot of things Morrison went on to do are a lot better. (ASSupes, Batman and Robin, the Filth, and Seven Soldiers were all pulled off more effectively, imo. A lot quicker, anyway.) He's my favorite comics author, nonetheless.

Mostly though, I just wanted to post to say thanks for posting the redrawn page. Had heard of, but never seen that before. Interesting.

It was. The artist jam experiment was a nice idea that was really horribly implemented.

To the point that some of the most important pages in the entire work were completely indecypherable and were redrawn by Cameron Stewart in the trades.

I plan to buy the Omnibus to finally check The Invibles out, but I have to ask.......Those two pages you have in your post. That's not how the entire series reads, is it? :p

If so, I might have to pass on this one. That's a bit out there and somewhat difficult to read.

On a serious note, stylistically, how does The Invisibles compare to Morrison's other work? I've loved his run on Batman (My favorite arc is "RIP." I never understood why some people found that arc hard to follow).......That said, I felt he dumbed down the writing a little bit in Batman & Robin, although the final story-arc had some fine elements which reminded me of "RIP." ......Batman Inc was good, for the most part.

I liked some of JLA (Probably slightly less than half of his work on that title).....What I liked from his JLA run were "Woman of Tomorrow," "Imaginary Stories," "Conquerors," "Crisis Times Five," and "World War III."

I thought Animal Man was OK, but didn't feel inspired to go past the first tpb......Flex Mentallo was interesting, but I wouldn't deem it a favorite. Same with Joe The Barbarian, although I'd deem Flex Mentallo to be superior to JTB....I found We3 to be overrated, kind of an average comic and don't get why some were so crazy about it.

Final Crisis, quite simply, I did not care for.

I haven't read The Filth nor Doom Patrol yet, but plan to eventually check them out.

Well... The Invisibles isn't a bit out there, it's way out there. But it mostly reads nothing like that page that needed to be redone (probably because the artist that originally did it wasn't familiar with the book and didn't understand the book's mythology.)

One of the best things he's ever done, and certainly the most ambitious.

If you haven't already, get 7 Soldiers Of Victory, because that's IMO his best work in the DCU, by a very wide margin.

Just ordered my Invisibles Omnibus... a web search didn't reveal any real answer, but I'm assuming the letters columns are not included so I went and through the miracles of the internet found text reproductions of all the letters columns. I then scraped this into a document file to read along with the omnibus.

If anyone else is interested, send me a PM with your email addy and I'll save you the same effort. Alternatively, if anyone knows a good anonymous file hosting service I'll stick it there.

Has anyone out there got the omnibus yet? I'm thinking about buying it but DC's binding can be problematic, especially in such a massive volume. Can find much info on bonus material either – is there any? I know there's a couple of short stories from anthologies, but is there anything else?

As someone in the comments section of that article said, that second to last paragraph is probably what a lot of Morrison die-hards would like to say sometimes, but are often too polite to.

Very looking forward to getting my copy of the omnibus; I haven't been this excited to start reading a new comic in a long time.

Maybe they were pulled off more effectively. But they weren't nearly as mind-blowing. Invisibles is acid in the form of paper and ink.

Absolutely- only reading the first TPB of Animal Man is missing out on the real genius of the series- the first TPB is basically like the first ten minutes of a movie where stuff is set-up and themes are introduced... and then things start go get interesting... very interesting.. :)

For me his best work is Animal Man (definitely the best ending of any comic book- both moving and mind bending), Doom Patrol, Flex, Zenith, WE3... for me the Invisibles lacked a bit of the humanity of his best work, a real sense of emotion...
