Default The Invisibles: Morrison's best work! (imho)

Felt a strong need to chime in this forum with a thread about the Invisibles. Time-travel, magic, decapitated head of John the Baptist, references to illuminati and new world order -plus a bad ass transgender shaman superhero? There really couldn't be a better story in my humble opinion. Grant Morrison has done so many comics, it's easy to overlook this one, but it's still my favorite series by far.

Any other big Invisibles fans out there?

Me, too. It's still my favorite Grant Morrison series, and it's also my favorite Vertigo book of all time. (Sorry, Mutuk Wolfsbreath, Hard-Boiled Shaman.)

I haven't read it yet, but since I'm liking pretty much everything I've read of Morrison, I'm hoping I'll like this too. I'm patiently waiting for the omnibus that will be released in a few months.

It's fantastic, but not his best work. Batman and Doom Patrol steals it. But yes, still amazing.

Defiantly. Though Doom Patrol and AS Superman are both pretty close to it, in quality.

I've been rereading it lately. I don't know if it's his best work, but it's very, very good.
If you're not reading Unwritten you should be.

Absolutely fantastic series but I'm more of a fan of Zenith and Animal Man more.

BTW, didn't Morrisson seriously believe that there was going to be a real-life magical singularity in the year 2012 at the time that he was writing the series in the mid-90's? Hahaha, I bet he feels real foolish now. That or he was just kayfabe-ing the fans (like in WWE wrestling)...

Looks at calendar. Confirms it's not 2013 yet. Wonders how that post makes any kind of sense.

realistically, the world probably wont end just yet.

but yeah, love the invisibles. or at least vol. 1 and the final issue. Morrison definitely lost me in the middle a bit, in a way he usually doesnt: he bored me, there, a bit. But goddamn if the last 5 pages of the series don't make up for all that. I'd seen the last page WELL before getting there, and brushed it off as morrison being weird. When I got there, when I finished that final page, I was on the verge of, like, happy tears.

Well, its not really about the end of the world but the end of a world... and would you notice the change until you were through it?

Love the Invisibles, though vol. 1 took some getting into for me by the end I was a complete convert. Morrison has written things more concise (Flex Mentallo, Sea Guy, All-Star Superman) but nothing has the the scope and ambition of the Invisibles. And yeah, the last 5 pages of 'Glitterdammerung' are magic :)

I liked the first two volumes of The Invisibles (though it was by no means my favourite Morrison work). The final volume completely lost me. From pretty much the first page I didn't have a clue what was going on - and that soured me on the whole thing.

The Filth and Flex Mentallo both cover similar ground and do a better job of it.
