Yeah, his math seemed kind of off a few weeks back. I guess you could throw adjusted gross numbers but I think it might match Dark Knight there (or get very close). It only needs to make 60 million by the end of it's theatrical run (which is how much it's outpacing Dark Knight right now).

I hope this will make the Disney brass re-consider on grabbing back all the old properties. People can throw out money talk all they want, but this movie is a helluva count argument if you ask me. A disney spiderman?? Money. A Proper X-men?? MOO-LAH!!! I know, i know ramblings of a mad fan, but dayum those numbers HAVE to make you wanna look into it.

If they can make a billion off of the Avengers do they even need the X-Men and Spider-man at this point?

Sony will never sell back the rights to Spider-Man, he's one of the only properties keeping their flagging movie studio afloat. Maybe if Disney gave them a serious percentage of all future profits, but Disney will never do that.

I'd say don't get your hopes up on Spidey or the X-Men joining the MCU anytime soon.

On the plus side, it's already beaten TDK world wide and will probably just inch over Harry Potter DH2's $1.328B.

Adjusted for inflation, Avengers is still a lightweight. It's current domestic has it sitting at around #91 on the top 200 and will probably sit at #45 at the end. TDK's adjusted domestic puts it at #28. Gone with the Wind is still reigning champ with an adjusted $1.6B domestic, $198M back in 1939.
Its #45 adjusted and 513 million domestic right now. Are you saying it wont earn another dollar?

Yeah, when I first saw the original post I predicted it'd pass TDK in 3-weeks. I was way underestimating Avengers. It'll pass TDK by Friday at the latest, and cruise to $600 Million. Passing TDK in adjusted gross as well. It'll be in theaters for another two months gradually padding it's take. It might not overtake Titanic, but it can damn sure put some distance between itself and the rest of the pack.

I'm not sure if it'll make it to 600 mil, but I do agree, it's on track to completely lap TDK both with Adjusted and Unadjusted.

Also I have to challenge the constant bringing up of Gone with the Wind. Yeah, there's been some crazy inflation, but at the same time, movies like GWTW didn't have to deal with nearly as much competition (both in the theaters and from other mediums like Television, the Internet and Pirating.) Not to take anything away from GWTW but comparing the gross of old movies to new movies is apple and oranges IMO.

It will finish at around 600 million domestic, comfortably. World wide it'll end up around 1.5 - 1.6 billion.

If that were the case the top 20 would be flooded with 1930's films, and Avatar wouldnt have had a chance.

The adjusted list is actually pretty well balanced through out the decades so I think the comparisons are fair.

It'll be at or above $560 by the end of the coming weekend, then it can cruise for two months picking up the remaining $40 mil.

I still don't get this movie but I enjoy watching it. It's a tale of two assholes. And then it ends and she say "at least I have my land" or something. I guess it means that "yea in the south we were a bunch of jerks during the war but we are humans".

The other point is that Gone with the Wind was in theaters for like a year an a half in its initial run.
