Plus, if you liked a movie, it was the ONLY place you could EVER see it. Movies didn't come out on DVD 5 months later.
So if a movie you liked was brought out again a year later, that was your only chance to see it again until it randomly came back in who knows the amount of time.

I really doubt it. From what I heard Fox pretty much owns the X-Men. Marvel made that deal when they were bankrupt so I think the rights are mostly in Fox's favor. And considering that First Class was pretty great I'm okay with the X-Men at Fox. If anything Avengers will make them step up their game.

Fox and Sony have the rights as long as they keep making the movies (even if never released, as long as they are in development like the FF and Daredevil reboots it counts). If they ever wait too long though, Marvel regains the rights.

Punisher and Blade have already been given back to Marvel, so it's now X-Men, Spider-Man, FF, Daredevil, and Ghost Rider. I don't think Fox or Sony will ever give up X-Men and Spider-man, but if the FF, Daredevil, and GR reboots fail bad enough I can see them giving them up.

Regardless of all of that though, Disney could technically buy Fox and Sony out of their contracts, but it would cost a TON of money.

The problem with that theory is that the studios that own the other properties also see how much money they can make, which gives them zero incentive to relinquish the rights. Doesn't matter how aggressive the lawyer mice are, at the end of the day it's all about money, and there's more money in it for the other studios to hold onto the rights and exploit them in their own productions for the next couple of decades than there is to accept any deal Disney might be willing to make with them.

I heard that there was something like a performance clause attached to some of the properties. Does anyone know if that's true?

Well anyway I didn't like the first movie with the robot-goblin and the fact that it was almost a perfect transposition of the comic.
I loved the second though since it must have been the first time Dock Ock was believable as a villain to me and way cool.

That's a big positive, it did so well and they did not have to force-feed the story with any romance.

It's probably got another 300 million in it. I guess it'll finish around 1.5 billion WW.

It could happen. It hasn't even opened in Japan yet and it could bring in another 100-150 mill there

I've read this for years on message boards, but have not actually seen any news stories or the like that confirms what the terms are of the contract. It is likely that at some point in time, despite Fox developing movies for these characters, that the rights will revert back to marvel. Unless Marvel hired a total hack attorney, there should be some sort of sunset clause in the contract. It would have been crazy for them to essentially license away their properties indefinitely.

Far more movies being produced, actually. They churned those suckers out back in the day. B flicks and such. Although you're right about the rest of it.

The Avengers should make another $24 million this weekend to reach $500 million domestic. Pretty sweet!

24 is shooting low. They think it will make between 40-50. It will pass TDK with in the next two weeks.

Speaking of contract clauses I'm curious where live action TV fits in. I'm not in a hurry to see Spidey on the small screen but I was wondering where he fell in the contract (Sony had live action movies and Marvel/Disney has animated cartoons) and I'm assuming Sony has animated film rights as well?
