Default Will Flash Thompson come to hate Spiderman?

Now we all know that Flash, irony or ironies, is Spiderman's biggest fan. But the alien symbiote still hates his guts and was more than willing to override Flash and attack Spiderman. Flash tried to fight this, but as he becomes more and more addicted to the suit, might he absorb its hatreds and prejudices?

Should I ever become writer of Amazing Spider-Man, you better believe I'd institute this post-haste (if it hasn't already been done). I mean, to me, this is the obvious step. Venom as a concept is part "hard-edged antihero" and part "villainous psychopath with a hatred for Spider-Man." The man behind the mask for most of Venom's lifetime has been Eddie Brock, who most people say isn't the most intriguing character every created.

But Flash makes total sense as Venom, and I submit that he doesn't even really need to get "overly" influenced by the symbiote's past "hatreds and prejudices." (Of course, I'm in the "symbiote actually loves Peter like a crazy ex" camp.) I mean, Flash loves Spider-Man - self-proclaimed #1 Fan after all - so there's already an emotional connection there. He knows Peter personally, and their relationship has fluctuated over the years; they've been best of friends and bitter enemies. If the writers let he and Peter become aware of the other's secret identity, any writer worth the shoes he's wearing, I think, can see how it might make for some compelling stories, especially if Flash and Peter found reasons to become *ahem* upset with each other.

-Pav, who has ideas of how that would work too...

To me the symbiote sees Spidey as the first love that scorned him. If its a true symbiote and not a parasite then taking on the emotions of the host is equally possible.

The symbiote has saved Peter despite Peter trying to get free from it, and also Brock and Gargan both had hatred for spiderman.

Just saying I think the word symbiote should be taken more seriously when it comes to venom, We've seen venom with people that hate Peter Parker as much or more than it does, but what effect could flash have on it.

The symbiote itself has always been handled pretty shallowly despite the early bellflower story setting up a complexity to the things psyche

Nah, I don't think the symbiote's hatred of Pete will somehow affect Flash.

Wait...shouldn't Flash know Spider-Man's identity? Correct me, but isn't that how Eddie figured it out? Because the symbiote knew?

the symbiote doesn't know post OMD. Same silly mind wipe that hit every person effected the alien organism that bonded with spidey.

I'd prefer if Flash's respect slowly healed the symbiote. Alternatively, they could make the symbiote slowly raise Flash from fan to obsessive stalker. Both of those would be preferable to straight up hatred for me.

Oh, I forgot about the mind wipe (which isn't silly to me, IMO). I wouldn't place obsessive stalker as a better alternative to hatred...

That's how I always seen it as well. Shoot even in the Carnage USA mini, Peter saves it and they have a "moment" (that odd stare at each other) before the symbiote runs off for Flash. I also think the symbiote responds to the host as well, cuz after the initial freakout where Venom fought Spidey, they've gone through Spider Island and possibly now Avengers Vs Xmen with no recurrances.

Or writers could do something better, and head back to the 80s route with giving the symbiote some human emotions and feel fondness of Spider-Man
Heck, the symbiote still has an attachment to Spidey, they way it still has attachment to Eddie, or even more, first love is the hardest to overcome

It could be an interesting transition from the guy who liked Spider-Man/ hated Peter Parker to a guy who likes Peter Parker/ hates Spider-Man.

Flash is aware enough of the symbiote's tendency to warp the thoughts of its host; I think he'd immediately get suspicious if he started feeling differently about Spider-Man.

Peter seems to be inadvertently helping to screw up Flash's life; through aiding Betty. this most recent issue, Flash notices that someone gave her sonic pepper spray (or whatever that was). Flash might start disliking Peter w/o his feelings about Spider-man changing.

Could happen (seems like Peter's already hating Flash for what he thinks he's doing to Betty). But their relationship has always cycled through these friendship and hate phases anyway, so its nothing new. Flash hating Spidey would be new.

That's a really interesting idea. I'd really like it if a tension was built up between Peter and Flash over 3 or 4 arcs. It'd be neat to have the fight start between Pete and Flash and kind of build up into them both revealing to each other who they are.
