Who is more unsympathetic Red Skull or the Joker?

For some reason, I felt kinda bad for Joker at the end of Arkham City.

On one hand, I'm DAMN SURE the only thing Joker isn't lying about was The Killing Joke.

On the other... Red Skull is a disgusting racist. I'd rather have a rapist insano to make ME feel sympathetic.

I'm pretty sure Joker's reasons were more nationalistic if anything. IIRC, his follow up statement went more or less along the lines of, "I may be a psychopath, but I'm an American psychopath."

Yeah I'd say Red Skull too, just can't sympathize with a Nazi...

The thing is I don't think there's ever been a sympathetic potrayal of the Red Skull, and while they're few and far between, I'm quite sure there's been a few occassions where the Joker can be very loosely interpreted as sympathetic.

The closest thing I've ever seen to a sympathetic portrayal of him - which was still a far cry from sympathetic - was a story where he'd been stuck in a pit by Magneto, essentially left to a slow death. He proceeded to have a series of hallucinations, where all the people he knew - his father, Hitler, Arnim Zola, his daughter - all tried to convince him to kill himself.
Then a hallucination of Captain America convinced him not to do it.

Eh, I doubt Joker was actually offended - I imagine he just acted the part because it was funny.
