Marvel Comics cosmic superteam the Guardians of the Galaxy returns in the pages of Brian Bendis and Mark Bagley's Avengers movie-inspired comic. Tom Brevoort tells CBR how its all part of the plan.

I seem to be developing in interest in the GOTG, having seen the Avengers cartoon, and reading up on the originals in the Avengers character guide book. (What happened to them, by the way?) I don't know who some of these characters are, like the big green guy in the upper left. That being said, I'm not a fan of cosmic stories.

One thing I can't really work out - is the Avengers Assemble comic outside of 616 continuity? I mean, it has to be, right?

It actually is and occurs before AVX.

Drax died, Quill was left in the Cancerverse with Nova and Thanos, the design of Bug is a departure from recent GotG. I love the Guardians; I'd like to see their story move forward in the 616.

Whatever is happening in Assemble just doesn't gel, with anything.

I had the same questions but everyone that answered said it was part of the 616 continuity but I don't understand how. I mean if this crosses over with the movie then the roster of the first avengers and all that doesn't fit with the current 616 continuity and several events are mixed up. This is all unless with the stuff going on in AvX Marvel is just going to do a big restart (*cough* DC) and use the movie/Avengers Assemble as the base.

Anyone know where you can find a clear cut explanation of where AA fits in with Marvel U?
