Default There needs to be a "DC Light" line for all the wackier stuff.

I was just talking with someone about the variety of stuff there is in the DC line today and while we agreed there's plenty of standard superhero stuff and lots of darker and weirder stuff, there seems to be a lack of lighter material. You know, a place where all that silly DC stuff like 5th Dimensional imps, super-pets and talking gorillas can go. So I was thinking, if there were such a line for all the comedy and action-comedy titles, what books do you think would go in it. The first one that comes to my mind is Metal Men. They've always been a bit on the goofy side. What do you guys think?

That's kind of the kids line, isn't it?

I'm not sure about a whole new line, but I'd be pretty happy with a Fun Comics revival starring Plastic Man and other heroes.

Most definitely need another line of fun zany stuff. I'd propose doing the comics and then flash shorts, or comics of the new DC Nation shorts.

Not necessarily. Because I like silly comics (Young Justice, Impulse, P+G's Power Girl) but I never cared for the kids' line. So, there must be some sort of difference.

Plastic Man's a good choice. That's more what I'm looking for. Have fun with the thread. Throw out some ideas.

To use movie terms, I think he's looking for more comedies, not necessarily kid's movies.

Maybe have a old school title like Adventure Comics or something but make it a anthology. Starring Plastic Man, Metal Men, Mister Miracle and Big Barda, Detective Chimp, Adam Strange and Doom Patrol. Rotate the stories between arcs to keep it fresh.

DC would really make a killing if they could put together a really fun Shazam cartoon show. Sorta Fleischer 1930's/1940's feel meets Johnny Quest meets MGM and Looney Tunes vintage shorts slapstick. A tie-in comic for the show would also be great. Why DC doesn't realize the potential for the Shazam family is astounding.

I honestly don't think DC is using media enough, selling 15-30,000 copies of something a month roughly isn't really sustainable. Not when the Avengers just made over a 1 BILLION at the box office.

They really need to make comics something kids want to read in an era of instant gratification. They need to get them like Archie back at the check-out counters at the supermarket, and a real low price kids can afford. They've improved with the DC Nation block but they really need even more tv media and I think maybe exclusive online webcomics and flash shows like Dini's Gotham Girls from a while back that you can access if you get the comics or you can unlock special stuff if you have a comic code. Make it interactive and fun. Phone aps.

I'd also really like sorta non-canon re-imagining of heroes too. Ben Caldwell's Wonder Woman SHOULD have been a TV show or at least an ongoing manga-type comic.

I'd love a Charlie's Angels meets Powerpuff Girls type treatment for the Batgirls, all girls of the same age who go out on missions from Big Bat on an intercom to foil the plans of evil in Gotham, some sort of ominous threat that gets bigger as the comic goes on. Babs, Cassandra and Stephanie Brown are already the classic color coding of the redhead, brunette and blonde kinda trio and Tim Drake would be the tech-wiz Alfred type at their lair/bunker/lounge and Stephanie's boyfriend. They are sometimes foiled but at times assisted by a second mysterious faction made up of Misfit, Huntress and Flamebird who respond to The Batwoman who has a different stance on crime. Allegiances (are they to be trusted?), moles and other fun stuff could make it a good book imo.

While the Dark line has books that can be considered "dark," Dark refers more to the mysterious, mystical vibe in the books. OMAC in the Edge Line and Frankenstein in the Dark line can be considered "wackier" and yet those books existed without any separate line.

PS: I thought Power Girl was pretty awful, so I probably wouldn't be interested at all in what the OP is looking for.

If it were an invitation to get more creators like Mike Allred, Kyle Baker, John Arcudi, Evan Dorkin, and Sergio Aragones working for DC, then I'm all in favor of it.

A Brave and the Bold series (like the one JMS stopped doing) would be great for a "DC Light" line.

I'd watch that! I love comedy. Comedy/Action would be fantastic. Maybe Looney Tunes meets DC. That was done in a book arc last decade and I enjoyed the wackiness there.

Give me Detective Chimp and I be happy.
I would like to say for the record that this is the FIRST TIME I've withheld dong when someone was so desperately asking for some.

I can't believe no one has mentioned Ambush Bug he would be perfect for a line/title like this but maybe it should be included in an anthology comic which would be annual sized and come out quarterly I think this is a comic that should be out there and make it with a rotating cast of characters heck I would really like to see Captain Carrot and Amazing Zoo Crew [but call them Squad instead]
