I hope this sells well and encourages the editorial to do more fun stories set pre-Decimation. Whilst I'm enjoying X-Men a lot at the moment, I'm by and large bored of the current mutants and want to meet some new adult mutants, yo. Jean Hulk and Darwin II look awesome.

Yes. Although what I was saying is that Professor X was kind of a jerk from the very beginning, right from the first few issues of the Kirby/Lee X-Men. He was a bit of a letch toward Jean, sent these teenagers off on near-suicide missions, and, slightly later, let them all think him dead for a prolonged time after Grotesque killed Changling guised as Charles. His goals and ambitions have always been laudable, but the means of attaining these goals quite manipulative.

and, yes, a zygotic twin is quite often reabsorbed during the gestational period - although I don't think it entails a psychic thought-blast :)

There are other talented artists out there, also trying to make a name for themselves.

How many comics does Neal Adams draw a year?

yeah, right? I think he illustrated a total of 9 or 10 all of last year.

Although I like the idea of bringing in some need blood for the ancillary x-projects. There's a younger writer/artist named James Stokoe, who has done 'WanTon Soup' and 'Orc Stain.' The guy was born to draw a Wolverine comic.

Honestly, Charles Xavier is one character you can totally reinterpret in about a million different ways in your head...most of them pretty unflattering.

I mean, the conventional interpretation of the X-men mythos is that Charles Xavier is this Gandhi/Mandela like figure, who preached peaceful co-existence between two races...a great teacher and mentor to a persecuted race...the would-be savior of mutant-kind.

But if you look at it another way, Xavier is actually a guy who recruits a bunch of impressionable and vulnerable teenagers (who, in many cases, really don't have anywhere else to go), rigidly indoctrinates them to his own philosophy and worldview, and trains them to become members of a paramilitary force and go on near-suicidal missions against genocidal maniacs on BOTH sides.

That said, this series doesn't look like its necessarily reinforcing the whole notion of Charles being a jerk. Just cuz he doesn't want to get involved doesn't mean he's a jerk

Not a big Edmund Burke fan, I see. If you don't think he's a jerk, at the very least, he's not hero material or in a position to teach others about heroism.

I wonder what old Burke would think of today's Neo-Conservatism as it exists in the states; I bet his whig would pop right off his head.

Of course he's not 'hero material'...yet. Neither was Peter Parker once upon a time, nor Tony Stark...or even James Howlett for that matter.

This is a very young Xavier, BEFORE he decided to help mutants...I think its already been established that Xavier got the idea for forming the X-men after encountering Shadow King during his travels in Africa. This story is clearly set before that period.

Maybe the events of this story will set the young Charles Xavier down the path to becoming the founder of the X-men and the would-be mutant messiah...

I mean, warts and all, Charles Xavier is a hero. But it's silly to think that he found his mission to fight for mutant rights all on his own, without any sort of inspiration. MLK was hugely inspired by Booker T. Washington. I'm not saying Logan is or should be considered Booker T. to Xavier's Dr. King, just that it makes sense that Xavier would see both mutants being persecuted as well as those fighting back, and that such things would have a dramatic influence on the man he would ultimately become.

Wasn't the Super-soldier serum based on Wolverine's blood? Collected when he was in Wakanda training Tchallla's father?
