Right now if anything is going to be spun out, it should have it's seeds sown in the pages of this book.

It'd be a really good way to start. JiM is kinda the 'Sandman' series of the Marvel Universe, right now. In the best possible way.

The supernatural side of Marvel needs a similar tome or tomes.
Annihilation did one thing that I wouldn't with a similar magic event--it was separated from the happenings on Earth. I think with a magic event, it's a great opportunity to use the Earth and show a fight against a threat to the planet (as well as the universe) that involves multiple well-known heroes. Not only can you use Dr. Strange and Iron Fist from the Avengers/Defenders, or Loki from Journey into Mystery, or Magik from the X-Men, but also various other characters who have been involved in mystical or supernatural struggles. Thor, Spider-Man, Daredevil, and the New Mutants to name a few.

(In a story I'd do, Thor and Spider-Man are integral parts, but that's neither here nor there.)

It sure is a shame that RAS never got to do that magic event he wanted to.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

In a situation like that, though, the big names overshadow the niche characters and it just ends up being a regular MU event with magic in it. Like, say, Fear Itself.

It really depends how it's written.

Infinity Gauntlet and all the cosmic stuff that came afterwards had PLENTY of mainstream heroes. Anyone think they overshadowed Starlin's crew? Warlock frankly made the earth heroes look like canon fodder time and time again. I don't entirely agree with that either... but the point is that a book can make whoever it wants the actual stars of the story.

In theory, sure. In 2012, the way Marvel is now . . . if the big names are involved, I don't see them not being the headliners.

To a lesser degree I could point to Chaos War too.

I think it's possible to involve bigger name heroes while still keeping the focus on the magical heroes. Right now Dr. Strange IS a New Avenger for example. Imagine if the Search for Sorcerer Supreme story arc was an event... you had Cap, Spider-Man, and Wolverine in it. But the real spotlight was on Strange and Voodoo. Obviously that's not an event, but that's the sort of storytelling ratio that I think you can have which allows big name heroes to add to a story without taking away from it.

He had an EPIC series; alas it didn't last. If only Remender was given one more shot, now he's a much bigger name... I think the series would last. Please, Remender... get one more chance.

    100% agreed. Loved this series!

Love the concept of S.P.E.A.R. I don't want boring Strange in-charge, it should be Doctor Voodoo. Wiccan his apprentice; Daimon Heslltrom, Daniel Drumm and Satana involved (the arguement could be made brothers/sisters make powerful spells together); with Strange making guest starring roles. Would LOVE it!

Marvel actually has a very deep magic corner. Even just looking at characters who have received a lot of exposure over the years:

    Strange
    Voodoo
    Doom
    Druid
    Shaman
    Agatha Harkness
    The Scarlet Witch
    Wiccan
    Magik
    The Black Knight
    Enchantress
    Loki

Which just makes it even more disappointing that they're not doing anything with it. Marvel's mystic bench is pretty deep.

These are all excellent suggestions! Marvel does utilize their mystic side, but I would love to see a line developed similar to DC's Dark line.

It may take a big writer on a core title. Neil Gaiman on Strange Tales? Bill Scienkiewicz doing art on a Magik series?

I do miss Captain Britain and the MI-13 a lot. Maybe an Excalibur reboot that is more dark fantasy themed?

With Walker doing the art duties, yes please. I enjoy Hellstrom.

Are we talking sorcery type magic here or more of a supernatural/horror type of thing? Because I'm not much for Dr. Strange type stuff but I love the '70s horror stuff.

Why not have both? There's enough room in the Marvel-verse for it. It's a great way to bring diversity to the MU line.

A Midnight Sons or Legion of Monsters book would be a great start alongside Doctor Strange.
