I've been that guy. So much hate from your team members. <_<

But then, I've been on both ends of that one, so I know how it feels.

    Ah, good times.

I once was part of a team whose members didn't even know what the project was supposed to be about. Not that we'd have had any idea how to complete it even if we did.

And of course, when we eventually figured out what was to be done, we unabashedly stole pretty much the entire project from the internet. No, we still don't know how the actual project was done.

    Gotta love the internet! <3

Any good stories where a bunch of unrelated plots that could have made a full story in and of themselves start up at the same time and collide like a train wreck?

Like, one member of the protagonist team is possessed by an ancient item with no mind of it's own gaining great power at the cost of losing track of morality... The Court Wizard has gained the Plotonium Coupon and is going to try to usurp control of the kingdom... A cult is about to set free the demon they worship... And the Rhinotaurs are invading?

Y'know, basically lots of utterly unrelated things go wrong at once and the story is about how the protagonists have to deal with that, rather than being directly driven by a specific antagonist.

Luckily the project is something we're doing of our own accord rather than an assignment, so we can just kick his lazy ass off of it. But that also means we have to practically restructure the entire thing.

As someone who's abused the internet at almost every chance available (well minus for plagiarism) I can agree. The internet is our friend! <3

I'm guessing he may be talking about Acererak's plan this time around?

It's incredibly risky, but also kind of ridiculously awesome.

Well, honestly, I don't see how you would have gotten more done if that fourth person hadn't volunteered.

Well the nature of the project basically relies on all four people, and we literally can't progress until he's gotten his end of the work done, so we're pretty much slowed down, if not completely stopped by him not doing his share of the work.

So thanks to him we've far behind what should've been done by now, on top of having to restructure the entire thing for three people which is going to slow us down even more.

    Spoiler alert.

    spoilers:
The demilich's plan to become a god is pretty much 'my calculations say that eating a crapload of dead gods will make me a god' and he goes on from there. He builds these engines that sap energies needed for his ascension (Feywild energy to contain the divinity, Shadowfell energy to help bond it to him, and the dead gods' energy from the Astral Sea). He uses the energies to build himself a god-golem body. If the PCs can't stop him, he ascends and becomes a god. If they blow up all three engines and his god-golem body, he has to retreat to his original skull body sans phylactery (since it was part of the Astral Sea engine). Then they have to track him all the way down to the original Tomb of Horrors, travel through it, and confront him. He's either making a new phylactery, or performing a ritual that will help him absorb some of the dead gods' energies left behind and become stronger. Also, he's replaced one of his gemstone eyes with the Eye of Vecna, so he's tougher than usual in this fight. You have to kill him before he completes either objective, or else he'll be harder to kill than before.
    end of spoilers

Sounds troublesome. And you can't replace him?

Have you given him clear instructions? I'm assuming so, just asking because whenever I'm in some sort of group I tend to be the guy who doesn't do a lot, reason being that I need people to tell me what to do and everyone always assumes I'm capable of taking initiatives on my own. I also can't keep deadlines to save my life.

Sorry to say, some people just aren't cut out for teamwork. Different paces and so on.

Tell me about it. And unfortunately we can't.

Oh trust me we've made sure to give everyone clear instructions, but that's the route it took, sadly. Yeah it's pretty clear he's not the teamwork type, and he also can't commit to anything long-term to save his life. Given his track record, it's mainly my fault for starting the project with him in the first place.

Ah well, I'm mainly just peeved. *shrug* This'll probably all blow over once we get things rolling again, we're already discussing where to begin, etc.

Yeah that would certainly make them more impressive. Though did haste still take years off if it came from an artifact?
Yeah I give up. They would need like a bajillion UNs to take it out. And they would all have to work.

Years later, in Galactic Civilizations 2...

So, it turns out that things...didn't go as I feared with the Yor.

Instead, it turns out that the Thalan, even weakened by pirates, were still more than enough to beat up the Yor and Drengin simultaneously AND feel comfortable enough about it to try to bully some money out of me. (I was disinclined to agree to their request.)
I had to force the Yor to return to war with them at one point, by tossing more technology at them.

Then the Thalan started spreading their influence at a scary speed.

    And then this happened:

    ...Crap.

I was banking on the Drengin. They were my guns. I've vowed not to invade, and I intend to keep that vow, but now I have a (comparatively) huge, mostly useless empire because I don't have access to their unique buildings.
Even with the money I have, it's going to take me a year to get it up-to-date to my Research technology standards.

I immediately signed mutual Economic and Research Treaties with the Thalan, to reinforce our ties and hopefully make them closer to accepting an alliance with me.
But if that doesn't work, I'm not sure how I can get out of this one.

I have a plan. I call it Plan: Surrendering Monkey, Backstabbing Bastard.

    Let's see if it works.

Watching a very silly Liam Neeson film right now.

It appears to be a man who hates wolves so much he would commit suicide if he didn't have wolves to kill, who crash lands in the middle of an Arctic Wasteland, rallies the survivors, then the local wolves try to take revenge for all his years of Captain Ahabing them.

Because seriously, that's the only reason I can think of for them being more persistently agressive than Xenomorphs. The wolves in this film are glowy-eyed shadow monsters made of rage and hate and bad special effects.

Also he drives a dying man into a panic in an incredibly poorly thought out attempt to calm him down by informing him he's about to die.
