Isn't it a little unfair to compare it to Avatar's box office sales as Avatar had multiple theatrical releases? Same for Titanic.

Not really. In order to justify multiple releases, it had to be capable of sustaining its numbers during said release.

Not really. The "Special Edition" opened up a couple weeks after the first run closed. It only got 10.7 million domestic and another 22.5 million world-wide. 33.2 million is a comparative drop in the 2.78 billion bucket.

Avatar had a VERY long run, by the way:

    Widest Release: 3,461 theaters
    Close Date: August 12, 2010
    In Release: 238 days / 34 weeks

It had a very long run because it had great legs.

I'm curious: how is asking here and having to check back (probably repeatedly) less effort than googling it? I mean, just in words typed your ratio is screwed thanks to your qualifier.

Oh plus? adding in the bold and color? that's more work than just googling a simple question.

Again, I'm just curious. I see this a lot and I wonder what the justification is for people.

I don't know, but perhaps the fonts can be defaulted? I can't be arsed to check.

As for the googling versus checking back thing, well, if I've got a given thread I expect to check repeatedly over the course of the day, I leave it open in a tab and just F5 it from time to time.

What jediracer said is what I meant. Avengers cost less to make ($220 million for a film of this scope is not excessive) and it is raking in much more money.

Not to say that googling it isn't easy, but pressing F5 every so often is easier when you get down to it.

it literally took me less than 10 second to google "how much did the avengers cost" and read "$220 million." 10 seconds. F5ing a thread for part of a day isn't easier or less time consuming. 10 seconds. that's my point. typing this took me longer.

Sometimes I ask about easily researchable factoids as well, just to get some discussion going. That's why we're here, after all.

don't assume I wasn't 'researching' teh pr0ns. I am, after all, posting on a comic geek message board.

and that'd be one thing if the avengers had any shortage of conversation.

    Yeah, but he also said

    in reply to

    "About $220 million.

It's already make back its budget in the states alone and then some."

All I was saying is they did spend a lot on The Avengers movie, hell, they made five movies as a lead-up to The Avengers.

As for John Carter, it's pretty clear they didn't know how to sell that movie. It's got a bland title because they thought the book's title would turn both little boys and girls off to the movie, and I'm guessing they didn't say anything about Mars in the trailers for the same reason it isn't in the title. I'm not really sure why they make a movie they so clearly didn't know what to do with, and I'm not sure why they would throw so much money and may it so big either. They should have started with a much smaller movie it seems.

You could save five more seconds: go to IMDb.com, click the link for Avengers (right side of the page, under weekend grosses), scroll down to the budget line. LOL!

They weren't all reluctant in Seven Samurai either, just most of them. Mifune's character was totally into it. And for that matter, I'm not sure I simplified plot any more than you did.
