I saw the movie this weekend with my kids and my wife and we all loved it! it was so much fun the only problem i had was that i was holding my self back from jumping up and down like a maniac as i didn't want to disturb the other movie goers. I love this movie!!!
I've already seen it three times. Great film, not at all surprised to see it pass the $1 Billion mark
As I am afraid to go to a theater (great thanks to the nervous breakdown I have...), I will wait for its release on DVD or BD (if I am equipped since then!!).
Despite not reading a single Marvney comic book, I appreciate the supes movies.
The last one I have really liked is the Green Lantern Director's Cut.
The pace is much better on this edition than on the theatrical one.
Now, about Dark Shadows, what the link with Avengers? Because it is a WB movie? And what? The author do not like at all WB? Who cares? Not me.
It's a great movie. I've seen it 5 times so far, and every audience has been a great mixture of men, women, children, young and old. I watched it last night, and people were still cheering at all the big scenes. When the team finally assembled, I saw fists pumping and smiles all over the place. It's the perfect summer movie, and the perfect comic movie.
Good for Disney. I hope that they crush James Cameron's awful Dances With Smurfs
Recommended Comics:
Star Wars: Dark Times,
Richard Stark's Parker by Darwyn Cooke,
Transformers: More Than Meets the Eye
If it stops Battleship from being #1 then it's really a job well done( I hope Battleship bombs )
Child Of The Atom Smasher
I hope that they use the sequels to introduce other superheroes.
Not going to happen. 50% dropoff first week (which is still very respectable for a tentpole release) plus a full slate of summer films coming up means Avengers will struggle to hit $1.5 Billion worldwide, which is still an absurdly amazing gross. It just isn't in the same realm as Avatar's $2.7 Billion, which was a total cultural phenomenon and won't be surpassed anytime soon.
It'll have to settle for #3 all-time both worlwide and domestic. Poor Disney.
It beat Avatar's first and second weekend grosses, yes, but it isn't going to have the ridiculously strong legs Avatar had. Avengers had a 50% decline in its first week, Avatar's was 1.8%. Avengers will likely dip another 50% or more next week as more summer blockbusters roll out, Avatar dipped under 9.6% its third week and had almost no competition whatsoever for a full three months.
So yes, while the Avengers may have opened much stronger (as summer tentpoles tend to do versus Christmas movies that take advantage of winter holiday vacations and have MUCH stronger weekday grosses) it will not have the olympic-athlete-level legs Avatar had, for numerous reasons.
