However, it would be ideal if they could find a way to give the codename some type of connection to Tim. I think it would allow for more personal claim and permanency, which has worked for Dick despite some folks seeing "Nightwing" strictly as a Kryptonian legacy.
I don't see that as being a problem. I suspect that it's passed from nearly everyone's memories. The name doesn't really grab me, but then again, I wouldn't like Robin except for all of the history behind it.

Heck, one of the stories behind the name for Robin is that it's a nod to Robin Hood. Hood is out thanks to Jason, but he could take on the name or a reference to another famous vigilante. Or sleuth. Lock?

But it doesn't seem like it's graduating from the other name. And it doesn't really grab the attention. I like the name fine (probably only because I thought of it), but it'll get a collective "huh" from the public and the assumption would be that it has to do with keys, not Holmes.

That just makes me think those costumes were simply hideous if they got rejected over the current design, but then again, I dislike the whole aesthetic that Booth and Lobdell have going in Teen Titans. Cassie's look is just out of control now.

No, they were not. Lee/Editorial was dead-set on the wings, for instance, and rejected some good-looking designs because they used capes.

I don't think he really needs a new name so soon. 'Red Robin' is OK, but I see Damien as just a placeholder anyway. Eventually I think we'll get Tim back as Robin, and let Damien go and be Talon, or something.

No, not really. If you go by it, pretty much every noun eventually has some drug or sex reference, so it's really pretty useless.

Are the concept art pictures online? Also I enjoyed Tim being his own man in his Red Robin series. It wasn't until I started reading Teen Titans that I noticed saying "Red Robin" all the time doesn't really roll off the tongue as well as other names.

How about the Crimson Fowl or just Drake (like the bird not the singer)?
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

The more I think about the wings, the more it bothers me. If Tim is technologically smart enough with Static's help to make wings that make him fly, why doesn't Batman make a cape that flies? Why does Damien need a jet pack. Why does Nightwing only resort to somersaults? Why does...

Because Batman does like to fly, it's been stated several times over the years that Bruce prefers to see Gotham from the ground.

Nightwing does somersaults because he's an acrobat.

Tim's tech doesn't really alter anything.

I see Batman standing on top of buildings looking down all the time. It's established that he at least glides to places and uses hook lines. Tim no longer needs to glide or use hook lines, he just eliminated two drawbacks to his previous costume. I would assume his allies would try the same.

Comic book powers/tools/abilities are paper/rock/scissors. What Tim gains with wings he loses something else. Sure Bruce could add wings, but it's not his crime fighting style. All these heroes have their own niche.

I guess. But you'd think bullet resistant wings would be a great asset. Haven't read up on the other people to see if their capes stop bullets.

    Shouldn't that be Rock/Paper/Scissors/Lizard/Spock?

Believe it or not, Nightwing did have wings on his blue/gold costume during that brief period between the Discowing look and the modern Fingerstripes [yes, I capitalize it]. I don't have a picture handy, but the wings were streamlined to attach from his forearms to his waist and functionally used to fly/glide. However, this aesthetic was not well embraced by readers and dropped once his solo launched.

There was a brief revisit to this look during Infinite Crisis, when he had to pull his old duds. Dick commented that while he had the advantage of flying--the suit was also heavier and he had to compensate for the added weight. Similar comment he made about the Bat-cape.

One could argue this is simply his style and he likes to be light enough to maneuver in any environment. Batman, as mentioned, prefers ground advantage and POV. If either needs to fly while among a team, they have a team to assist. During their private operations, tech comes into play.

Basically, what I'm saying that while Tim's wings can be an advantage, they're not exactly a necessity. He has options. In comics, its going to boil down to aesthetics and if Tim can rock the look, more power to him.

I wouldn't mind Nightwing having the gliders he had in BTAS.
