Default Scratches head and thinks wow

I have been away from comics for some time. I used to spend tons of green on them and had a huge collection of comics some I never got to read because of work and long hours. Some I would read at the store and pack them away unable to wait for that next comic. The surfer was one of those comics. The Hulk was another and Thor when the writing was good nothing beat a good story about these characters.I even liked it when they cloned Spiderman and I would read the peace in the comics where readers would gripe or say how they liked the comic.
One reader ask this. Are you going to kill off Ben? They replied no. The character of Ben will not be killed off.
I thought wow what a bold answer.
Then it turned out a lie. I guess that for me was the start of a downfall. A small amount of poison that would define the rest of the comics to come.
I would read and time would pass and little by little they forgot the formula of how hero's where made and I mean this is marvel the hero maker.
Stan Lee the best creator of hero's would look and say how did we get so far off base? He would scratch his head and say how could you destroy what makes a hero tick what gives him the power to fight the bad guys. Take away the power of the Thor and he is still Thor. Its not his hammer but his spirit that drives him thats the whole point of a hero. Take away Spidermans power and down deep he is driven to avenge his uncles death to stand up in the face of evil and defend those uncle bens he was not present to help on that one day. I scratch my head and step back because somebody forgot that. Just toss the power of a hero to anybody on the street and its ok because its the power that counts not the hero that used it. I guess its true the hero is dead and the villains have won.
A great story demands readers to hold the book closer to say to their wives or their kids wait one second I have to buy this , wait one minute I just will pay for it honest (clerk at store) what is on the next page? Sometimes we know how it will end but it never destroys the story. Just because i know my wife is home does not make me any less happy to see her when I get to the house. Thats what keeps me coming home day after day after day. A good story does not have to change the character it only has to use it in a new way. What would Thor do here , or how would Spiderman do in this test? If you have to change the charactors you end up with people going , hmmmm let me see who is this they made because its not Thor , it is not Spiderman , it sure is not Iron Man.
I am just amazed at how character is destroyed so many times and changed to fit the story. Not the story changed to fit the characters.
All in all some really good runs was there. Some really good story arcs. Just you cannot have them all happen at the same time and exspect us to go , yeah I could see that but hell no do not reboot them. That would make sense. We cannot or we will not make sense. lol just sayin

I'm scratching my head too.. so you liked the clone saga.. you like predictable endings... something about your wife and kids waiting for you... not sure if you like or dislike reboots.. did you know Stan Lee is still alive?

I think this (someone posted it earlier) sums it up perfectly.

Nothing, really. They gave him a son who looks like Samual L. Jackson though.

'Mm,' she agreed. 'He's a little bit dodgy in the same way that rats are a little bit covered in fur."

If you boil any storyline down to plot points and add reductively silly captions, of course it'll look like crap.

The epilogue that turned Marcus into Nick Jr. was incredibly contrived and more than a little silly, but up to that point it was a pretty good mini-series.

Apart from the Clone Saga (which IMO almost did irreparable damage to Peter Parker and Spiderman), which characters have been destroyed?
Adults struggle desperately with fiction, demanding constantly that it conform to the rules of everyday life when the answer is obvious to the smallest child: because it's not real. - Grant Morrison

Well no I did not like the clone saga but I did like Ben. Yes reboots are a must not some drone on soaps that never end and your mother ends up older then you. A single day has far to much going on and that makes about as much sense as that shit DC did with all those earths and hero's saying what in the hell is going on. oh and yes I know Stan Lee is still alive and I am sure he is pissed off and what they are doing with his idea's. That or well medicated and does not care.

Does it really make people feel better to think that Stan Lee agrees with their opinion?

If the ending of the storylibne was "incredibly contrived and more than a little silly" then it follows that the entire mini-series was incredibly stupid and totally retarded both in narration and execution.

it's this kind of derivative and badly written story telling that's led to a lot of mainstream comicbooks being a total waste of money.

What about the story really stands out in its 'contrivedness', taking into account that it takes place in a soap opera/superhero universe?

Don't listen to him. He is just put off my Marcus so he is spreading his distain for him everywhere he can. Tom Brevrote already confirmed that Fury will continue play an important role in the MU, Marcus is just being set up/in place.
