    Default Spider-Man in the MCU

Wait, wait, wait, hold up. We've all heard that since Spider-Man is owned by Sony, he cannot be in the movies or even referenced. But, does that necessarily mean he's not in it. Well, let's look at it this way. If Sony falls through, rights for a Spider-Man movie revert back to Marvel. And according to the the new president of Sony, he wants to focus more on electronics and gaming. Meaning? That movies are no longer a priority for Sony. So much so that there are actually reports on the Internet of Sony getting rid of Columbia. So, what then, happens to the Spider-Man movie franchise? If this next movie is a hit? Then, the Amazing Spider-Man franchise will probably retconned into the MCU. So, by looking at it, wouldn't that make this next Spider-Man movie in the MCU until this franchise is rebooted and the next one is confirmed to be in the MCU?

The Spider-Man movie franchise is pretty much the only thing that makes Sony money these days. They're not gonna let the rights revert back to Marvel, unfortunately.

Sony Pictures and Sony Music seem to be doing better than the electronics parent company anyways, so it does not seem likely, but even if Sony decides to quit the Picture business, they would try to sell Columbia Pictures, or at least the rights to their more popular franchises, so Disney would not get its hands on Spidey unless they put out some cash... come to think about it, even Warner could end with the rights to Spidey... so it is better for Sony to keep them... (and better than them going back to Disney, do not wanna see "Ultimate Spider-Man agent in training of SHIELD" on the big screen)

To be honest, Marvel not having the rights to spidey or x-men can be a good thing because it does require them to actually comb thru their libraries and push lesser known characters forward.

With X-men and spidey, they would have less desire too.

I'm not against spidey in the MCU but does it have to be done on the big screen or would the small screen suffice?

Oh, Marvel and Disney are just waiting for those rights!

But at least it does allow for lesser known characters to get some spot-light. Besides, having Spider-Man in it would just have been a mess.

Even if movies aren't a huge focus for Sony, Spider-Man consistently makes them hundreds of millions of dollars. the only reason we've had a five year gap between them is because the fourth one fell apart.

Personally, I really hope that with the new Amazing Spider-Man coming out that Marvel doesn't get the rights back, because I think that'd trigger another reboot for the franchise. One reboot in a decade is more than enough, two in fifteen years is tooooo much.

Are you sure that rights revert back to Marvel if Sony falls through? I've read pieces about how Sony would likely sell the franchise, so there would be a lot of competition for the rights.

Question: How sure is this Sony selling Spidey thing.
Did someone at Sony state this or gave somekind of hint suggesting anything of sorts?
Cause I just don't see any reason for them to do so.

PS I hope it doesn't go back to marvel.

I don't think marvel can sell the rights, because they only "rent" the rights off Marvel. thats why if they are a number a years without producing, they revert back to marvel

Would that rule apply to all the various Spider-Women? Would it apply to Miles? Is the rule for Peter Parker as Spider-Man only.

In other words can you have Miles in his costume being called Spider-Man in Avengers 2 or would he have to go by a different name? Lets say Spider-Men established a second name for Miles. Would that free him up?

Warner could end with the rights to Spidey...
I'm sure DC would love that. What would that say about DC's roster? You had to get Spider-Man because you screwed up everything not named Batman or Superman so bad that you did that? Then again it does free them up to do their own black Spider-man (and yes they do have one with a son).

I don't really mind Marvel not having the rights. I mean it would be so awesome to see Spidey in Avengers 2 but I do agree that Marvel not having his rights is probably for the best, giving other characters a chance to shine.

Indeed. Not having the film rights to Spider-Man and the X-Men (Wolverine in particular) has forced Marvel to get more creative with the characters it includes in its cinematic universe, and that's pretty much for the best. I still think it'd be interesting to see how Spider-Man and the X-Men would be treated, like maybe S.H.I.E.L.D. trying to connive its way into the X-Men's good graces by offering its aid and resources for the X-Men to train and educate mutants who are willing to be trained and educated while working "together" to contain those mutants that are actually menaces to society. I could see Wolverine, should he appear, being especially suspicious of S.H.I.E.L.D.'s offer in light of his past history with Nick Fury, and you could potentially have it in this universe that mutants were the result of a widespread international super-soldier initiative gone out of control, with Wolverine naturally being one of the first a la Ultimate Origins. I could also see Fury and Spider-Man in the Cinematic Universe interacting similarly to their Ultimate counterparts, with Fury alternately cajoling Peter with knowledge of his parents and threatening him if he proves too much of a wildcard and Peter alternating between chafing at Fury's manipulation and somehow wanting to prove himself (like Mary Jane said when she was telling off Fury at the end of the Ultimate Clone Saga for his actions vis-a-vis Peter). Also, Spider-Man in the MCU would be worth it for a shot at seeing a brotherly relationship form between him and Tony Stark on account of their shared affinities for science and irreverent sarcasm, with Tony even attempting to take Peter under his wing a la the pre-Civil War Spider-Man comics after Spidey joined the New Avengers.

Plus, Reed Richards of the Fantastic Four having a big nerd-off with Bruce Banner and Tony Stark and Ben Grimm getting into slugfests with the Hulk? Sign me up.
