Wolverine #306 - Possible SPOILERS

I am not a regular reader or Wolverine, but I did read a good chunk of Jason Aaron's run on the title. I bought Wolverine #306 because of the villain, Dr. Rot, and the writer, Cullen Bunn, whose writing has impressed me on the Sixth Gun. I loved the comic and cannot wait to read more, but I thought there's be a lot more discussion about that final page. It reminded me a LOT of the imagery from a different, recent top-selling comic. Am I the only one who noticed this?

I'm not certain I know what you're referring to, but imagine it's the other Harry Harlow-inspired villain, Professor Pyg. I read 'Insane in the Brain' a few weeks ago in tpb format and definitely noticed a similarity between Doc Rot and Professor Pyg, but really don't know to what extent one may have inspired the other. Why are all comic book psychiatrists evil?

Well, both weren't original characters really if you think about it, so similarities are unavoidable.

For this issue, I like that Bunn, despite Pelletier's "ok" art, manages to deliver a chilling horror story. The timing and imagery work well in setting up this horror story. It still pales in comparison to the original arc as this leans toward the torture porn sub-genre rather than the psychological thriller that influenced the first. Nevertheless, I like what I've read so far. I don't know how it will affect Logan in the long run, but it's good that he used Melita as the constant element.

If I have one issue it would be police procedural and WATXM element, which don't really mesh well with context of the story.

I got the triple play pack meaning I got UXF, X-factor, and Wolverine for $50. A little scared because I've never done mail order before and I was worried that I wouldn't get the issues until well past shelf life. Well, I was right. I still haven't gotten my Wolverine 305, let alone 306. What a rip off. I didn't get the new X-factor or UXF this week either. I strongly suggest anyone that is thinking to get the triple play to avoid at all costs.

Rot puts the rot in rotten! A second enjoyable issue in a row for Mr. Bunn. And as usual Mr. Pelletier draws an exciting story. The hackfest here is gratuitous but more deserved than in many of Logan's bloodlettings in the past year.

Similarities like this are bound to pop up from time to time. Thus far I'm enjoying this story much more than I enjoyed the Dollmaker story.
