    Default Green Lantern Questions

Hello all... First post here. I'm getting my son into comics and do far his favorite is Hal Jordan as Green Lantern. I bought Rebirth, Secret Origins, The Blackest Night and The Brighest Day as well as The Sinestro Corps War. I know I still need the Emerald series but is there another book before The War of Light? That fills in the gap after the SCW ended? Or does it jump right to it? These are trade books I know. But they seemed like good starts til we get caught up with the rest of the universe. Still need infinite crisis and the 52 among others. Any help with these questions would be appreciated. Thank you

I know GL: Rage of the Red Lanterns, GL: Agent Orange and GL Corps: Sins of the Star Sapphires all are set pieces placed after SCW before we jump inside Blackest Night.

How old is your son? Usually I don't say that, but some of the Blackest Night books can be pretty gory.
Also, if you want my opinion, I think Rebirth - SCW - Blackest Night are more than enough even without all the rest attached to it. They're a nice trilogy. Still, if you want to buy more for him to read, they're not bad by any means.

By the way, does he watch the animated GL series on Cartoon Network Saturday mornings? If he enjoys that, he may also be interested in the comic book based on that series from the DC Kids line.

Also, I'm an old guy, but I would also recommend the Green Lantern Chronicles tpb books that reprint Hal's stories in chronological order going back to his first appearances in the Silver Age (Showcase 22 from 1959) . . . I believe DC put out at least three volumes of GL Chronicles.

Hal is not precisely a good role model you know.

Depends on which version of Hal. Geoff Johns writes him as a major jerk, but he wasn't always that way.

Unless you want to also delve into how the corps works in GLC ( and the three other earth lanterns ), then the titles mentioned above work. I strongly recommend the animated series. It's quite good. It also has its own comic book directed towards younger kids
