    Default Indiana Jones comics

Anybody read any of these? Marvel of course first held the license and adapted the trilogy, but Dark Horse still I believe holds the licence.

The Marvel series I've read a bit of, the first arc by Byrne was good but there was some kind of problems that had Byrne swear off licensed comics for a while (Although I believe he did do some brief ALIENS work later on for DH). The other issues seem to use the movie characters quite a bit-Marion returns (Which actually kind of fits with KOTCs implying their relationship lasted for a while after RAIDERS) as do most of the RAIDERS supporting cast. Basically it was kind of like the Star Wars Marvel line, campy fun.

Dark Horse's output I think was more variable. It sort of started strong with the tie-in to FATE OF ATLANTIS but I felt it lost it's way after that (Nice covers though!). Apart from a sort of tongue-in-cheek guest turn in STAR WARS TALES...There was an attempt to revive the Indy comics a few years back with the KOTCs adaptation and a new mini-series TOMB OF THE GODS, but I don't think it really went beyond that....

I bought Marvel's The Further Adventures Of Indiana Jones comic back in the day and thoroughly enjoyed it. I have pretty much a full run of that series, including the three movie adaptations (still missing the odd issue though). It's been a while since I read any of those books, but I have re-read them as an adult and I thought they still held up really well.

As for Dark Horse's Indy comics, I bought the Kingdom Of The Crystal Skulls adaptation when it came out, but it was so forgettable, I litterally recall nothing about the comic. I haven't read any of the other DH issues.

Confessor, you seem to appreciate licensed comics when done well. Have you perused the latest Back Issue magazine?

Ooh, nice! Thanks for the tip-off, I'll definitely need to pick that one up.

I have purchased 3 of those Omnibus volumes at a deep, deep discout (maybe $25 for all 3). The stories aren't always great, but the are for the most part quite enjoyable and there's any interesting mixture of creators.

This thread is quite the coincidence as I've purchased most of the run in the last couple of months. I think the consensus here is 'well-done or fun reads.'

The first two issues by Byrne are quite good, there is a nice issue by (mostly) Gene Day, alas the last comic he ever did and some journeyman's work from Herb Trimpe and Steve Ditko.

There are no classic issues per se but the stories I've read are quick and fun; produced in the 80s Marvel house style.

    Worth picking up.

The omnibuses only reprint the Dark Horse Indy comics though, right? I'm not sure the Marvel run has ever been reprinted.

They aren't that bad. Some of the stories are definitely better than the Crystal Skull. But if you're going to pick up the Omnibus, make sure its The Further Adventures, those have the Marvel reprints. Have you some great artists working on that...Byrne, Chaykin, Gammill, Buscema, Simonson. Also if I remember correctly, I think Archie wrote a few issues.

If you can find them cheap, I'd say go for it.

IIRC, they had 2 omnis of the DH stuff and 3 of the Marvel stuff.
