Default Maximum Carnage comic order question

    Hello all,

I remember collecting Spider-Man comics in the '90s and absolutely loving the Maximum Carnage story arc. Now I look back on it, something has puzzled me about the way these comics were released - and I'm sure all comics were done this way, but I can't seem to find an answer as to why.

They were released on a regular basis as far as I remember, yet each issue is from a different comic book. For example, some of the issues in this story arc are from Amazing Spider-Man, some are from Web of Spider-Man, some are from Spiderman Unlimited, etc. yet the story was released in chronological order. Did they just produce one comic per month and simply rotate the name of it? I guess there's an obvious reason that I'm simply missing.

If anyone could provide me an answer I'd be grateful, this is really peaking my curiosity!

    Thanks guys.

Spiderman Unlimited was published every 3 months. Web, Amazing, Sipder-Man, and Spectacular were published once per month, one each week in that order...

Ah thanks, my memory incorrectly thought it was a monthly story.

What's the difference between these comics then, if the main story is the same?

Also I read somewhere that The Amazing Spider-Man is considered canon, I take it the issues of Maximum Carnage that took place in other comics are also canon? Very confusing :s

Each title had different creative teams, and different story arcs for a while, all of them are "canon". Back in the early 90s, Amazing mostly had Venom/Carnage for itself, Spectacular had a long story arc with Harry as the Green Goblin (and that story would not really cross over to the other titles at all). Spider-Man had a rotating team (from Maximum Carnage it became permanent with Mackie and Lyle, iirc) and Web had mostly a long arc with Rose, Demogoblin and Macendale...

Maximum Carnage was the first time Carnage appeared outside of Amazing, and besides a story called "Spirits of Venom", the first time Venom showed up in any of the non Amazing titles... Maximun Carnage started in Unlimited 1, then went to Web (part 2), ASM (3), SM (4), Spectacular (5), Web again (6), ASM (7) etc until Spectacular got part 13 and then Unlimited No 2 had part 14. It was a weekly maxi series on all the core titles.

Thanks for the reply. Does that mean that the issues of Maximum carnage were made by varying teams each week?

....One exception, to my knowledge, Amazing Spider-Man #369, the back-up story, done by J.M. DeMatteis, in which Liz visists Harry in the Vault, courtesy of events of Spectacular #189-190.
