Default Can you answer a few questions about the Avengers movie WITHOUT any major Spoilers?

Okay I know it's way too late to have not seen it yet, but I'm waiting to go with a bunch of people. I also realize there is a thread almost exactly like this but that's for post movie discussion, this is for pre movie priming.

I have a question or two and you're allowed to answer with all the comic book spoilers you want, just no movie spoilers, because that's what I haven't seen.

    1. How true is it that much of the movie I'm about to see is based on The Ultimates #1-13?

    2. What other comic book material gets used in the movie?

    3. Will it be possible for a sequel to follow the comics more or less?

    1. Not very.
    2. 616
    3. 616 yes, very easily. Ultimate, not so much.

GO SEE IT! YOU WILL NOT BE DISAPPOINTED!

    1. Eh, not too much. There are certain similarities, but nothing too overt. Two characters are pretty obviously based on their Ultimate versions. You have, as was mentioned in the Incredible Hulk, the fact that Banner got his powers from an attempt to recreate the super soldier formula, but neither or Banner nor Hulk act much like the Ultimates version. Just little details and ideas are in there.

    2. It's pretty much like all the other films....it's a mix of Ultimate and 616 and some new stuff.

    3. I don't see why not.

thanks guys this is good stuff. feel free to reveal more. If it happens in the comics I don't mind you telling me flat out that it happens in the movie. I just don't want any new material to be ruined for me. The movie Universe being a Universe of it's own actually sits well with me and I'm still excited to see what new stuff happens to these guys, so don't worry about ruining the surprises regarding what appears from the comics

ROFL! God no! These people are heroes man! I heard it the other day and I loved it, The Avengers is the anti-Watchmen. It's not dark and gritty, the heroes aren't questionable in morals, and it's 100% AWESOME!

I'm glad someone finally showed that that was possible

I KNOW RIGHT!!? I was so scared that HUGE comic films were going to be dark and gritty forever!

Well, Fury is a little. But even for Fury his questionable morals in this film are low level.

If it's the scene I'm thinking of, I could TOTALLY see 616 Fury doing that.

They are questionable in morals, they just don't cross the line where they could be considered vile and irredeemable.

Honestly, that's what I like about all of the Marvel Studios films. They all are funny and have a sense of hope. Even Iron Man, who is sort of a self-centered jerk, is still ultimately a good and heroic person. Avengers was good at making the characters all flawed and dysfunctional, but in the end, they are all shown to be heroes.

I will say that there is some definite shady-ness in Widow's past and some in Hawkeye's as well. I mean...they are assassins.
