    Default Bronze Age Appreciation

Because I get obsessions, and this is the current one. This thread is to celebrate those stories that were the next stage of Marvel comics, where we saw things such as the rise of the Micronauts, ROM, the resurrection of the X-Men, Doctor Strange, Man-Thing all getting titles. If you were a fan of this time period, this is a place for you to come and talk about your favorites, and possibly get me excited and blow money I don't have on these back issues lol.

When comics were 20 cents! This is definitely my era. I think I bought just about everything back then.

My favorite bronze age books thus far have been:

    Jim Shooter/George Perez's Avengers run.
    Claremont/Cockrum/Byrne's Uncanny X-Men.
    Claremont/Byrne's Iron Fist
    Claremont's Ms. Marvel
    Starlin/Englehart/Milgrom's Captain Marvel
    Mantlo's Micronauts and ROM
and that's just what I've gotten ahold of and read thoroughly thus far.

Dr. Strange. I love Dracula more, but he's not really part of the MU right now. You'll get more info on a current character if you go with Dr. Strange.

Englehart Doc Strange is some of the best Doc Strange ever done. After that, read Man-Thing, Howard the Duck and Defenders. Steve Gerber FTW

Gulacy and Moench Master of Kung Fu is a masterpiece...
Top 10: Hawkguy, GIJoe Cobra, The Massive, Daredevil, Wonder Woman, Fury MAX, The Black Beetle, Batman, Winter Soldier, Suicide Squad, and The Activity.

You cant go wrong with either one. I may lean towards Tomb as it was really a part of that era and Strange has the luxury of other awesome adventures beyond the Bronze Age of comics.
Those two eventually meet up, as collected in "Doctor Strange vs Dracula: Montesi Formula" TPB

I don't mind if Dracula isn't part of current continuity, i just want some great stories.

I have mixed feelings on the Bronze Age and prefer the later Bronze Age (80-85). Simonson Thor is awesome.

So how was Man-Thing? While it's not my next Bronze age gem to grace my collection, it is going to be one of the ones further down the line.

Bronze Era Marvel was a fun place to be; Marvel were able to expand their line after the distribution deal with National (DC) ended, and a whole raft of new creators (influenced by the previous decade's Marvel comics) were given much more editorial freedom to experiment with new concepts and approaches. There were still a lot of mediocre comics, but Englehart's Avengers, Gerber's Defenders, the horror line, Starlin's cosmic stuff, Perez on Avengers and Fantastic Four, Claremont and Byrne's X-men and many other series from that decade are fond memories for me - so much I started up a blog (which I don't get get as much time as I would like to work on) devoted to the Marvel Comics of the 70s.
