Default What do you think about the new 52?

Where is this thread? seems like it would be a popular one.....I am brand new to the comic book world and wanted to take advantage of the New 52. I just wanted to see/get others opinions on it. Thanks!

Probably buried someplace in here. There have been a couple of variations on this theme.

Anyway, I've been really pleased with the "new 52". I have found the majority of the new stuff enjoyable and entertaining.

I have been reading comics for 20 years, and I have enjoyed it.

If you are looking for recommendations, here is what I recommend grouped by interests:

    Basic Superhero fare:
Justice League: Superman, Wonder Woman, Batman, Flash, Green Lantern, Aquaman on a team.
Batman: Just a good comic about Batman
Flash: Fastest man alive, and beautiful art.
Wonder Woman: A story like an ancient Greek myth, complete with the Greek gods.

Horror Comics, which have gotten great reviews:
    Animal Man
    Swamp Thing

    Personal Recommendation
OMAC: Crazy looking sci-fi monsters punching each other in the face. A very fun comic that lasted only 8 issues, so it will be easy to get the entire series.

Also, the trades for the New 52 have just started coming out. A trade (or graphic novel) is where the last 4 to 8 issues of a comic book series are collected into a single book. So picking up the trade for any series you want to start should get you caught up quickly.

These two books are indeed awesome, and I want to add a few more too. Demon Knights and Frankenstein, Agent of SHADE are both pretty sweet reads :)

BIRDS OF PREY is a kickass action movie in comic book form. I'm sad to see artist Jesus Saiz leaving though.

Ditto on the props for FRANKENSTEIN, AGENT OF SHADE; it's quirky, imaginative, over the top fun.

BATMAN and WONDER WOMAN may be typical superhero fare, but they have been impressive so far.

G.I COMBAT just started with stories about The War That Time Forgot and The Unknown Soldier. Both seemed well-written and different enough from regular comics to grab my attention.

OMAC was fun. I would have liked it to last longer.

Thanks for the advice! Yeah right now I'm doing Superman, Batman, TDK, JL....gonna do a few of E2, Action Comics and Night wing to see if I like them....I feel the overall feedback has been positive....I come across a couple comments about how "DC made a huge mistake" or they "slapped TRUE fans in the face with this relaunch....Never been a fan of comics myself(but that's changed!) I like thoroughly enjoy it.....I think it was a great business move and i think they've definitely appealed to a new fan base.

    Welcome to the boards!

I'm a lapsed reader who returned to reading comics a few months before the New 52 started though before that I had been a steady comic reader of several years. Currently, I'm enjoying more titles then I've ever enjoyed in my comic reading life and I think that DC made a good decision to relaunch.

Here's a few recommendations from me that other people haven't mentioned.

Demon Knights- A fantasy title that has an interesting group of characters, a strong script and great character developement set in the distant past of the DCU.

All Star Western- Details the adventures of Jonah Hex and Amadeus Arkham in the DCU in the 1880s. The opening arc is set in Gotham City but it has been said Hex will be visiting other past versions of familiar cities in the DCU in his travels. This one also features backup stories dealing with other western themed DC characters.

Also if you're interested in a Bat title that is different from the norm:

Batwing- This title deal with the Batman of Africa and features a character coming to terms with his violent and tragic past while becoming a hero training under Batman. The script is strong, the characters and setting interesting and it's a Bat title with a little something extra.

Thanks! There are so many recommendations. I feel like this could be an expensive universe to be in! I thought about picking up All Star Western......Anyone read Earth 2? I picked that up yesterday and thought it was pretty good.

You should pick up All Star Western. It's a really good book.

I've read Earth 2 and I thought it was a really good book. It's actually become my favorite out of the books that I'm reading right now, which was something I wasn't expecting to happen right out of the gate.

I really the new 52 because it gave me a chance to read DC regularly and it has very good comics like Animal Man and Swamp Thing. I'm a relatively new reader, I've been reading comics for 6 years now.

The new 52 was my entry into comics as well. I not only started getting DC books but got into Severed, Fatale, Saga, AmVamp, Scalped, and Sweet Tooth. My only wish is that Frank Quietly comes back to DC and draws Batman again. That would put New 52 over the top

Also who would have guessed my number 3 fav hero is Aquaman? I mean really.

A lot of what's being produced is pretty quality. OMAC was a benchmark but was unfortunate to be on the chopping block first. Which seems be a curse with the OMAC name.
I highly recommend Batman, Swamp Thing, Animal Man, Action Comics, The Flash, Nightwing, and Batman and Robin.
