One thing that occurs to me with all the talk of a new Iron Man; how is it that people ever viewed Iron Man as a hero before Tony came clean about the secret identity? Underneath the armor, it could've been anyone. Tony had established (re:lied) to the press that he had multiple men in the Iron Man suit, most notably when he pinned all his Armor Wars crimes on an identity he subsequently killed. He's also said that he has multiple Iron Men in reserve, a fact confirmed by the various people who've worn his suits ( Rhodey, Happy Hogan, Eddie March, Michael O'Brien, Bethany Cabe, etc.). If that's the case, how could anyone believe that Iron Man was anything but a guise worn by a revolving stream of Tony's personal mercenaries? This is even pointed out in Marvels, where Ben Urich comments that the public just sees Iron Man as an employee, not a "Marvel" who built his own tech.
Granted, the new Iron Man is probably a rogue operative, so nobody knows who's under the suit. So he's a vigilante fighting against the (corrupt) US government, rather than a member of Tony's well-funded guard. Still not exactly comforting, but desperate times and all...
