There's a big difference between the geographic south and the cultural South. I'm pretty sure Gambit was referring to the cultural South. San Diego would be the Southwest anyway.

Nope, just West. Southwest ebbs up being stuff like Arizona.

If it doesn't sound like "Lullvull" then they're not really from Kentucky.

Same with a lot of West Virginia, which is odd considering the state's history. There are some parts of the state that are more closely tied to the Rust Belt, and the eastern panhandle is almost a suburb of DC, but a vast portion of the state definitely considers itself Southern. If there were ever a rematch of the Civil War, I have no doubt which side WV would join.

Kentucky still gets to be considered part of modern dixie.

Probably has something to do with the bluegrass history, and most importantly has been apart of the Southeastern conference since 1932.

Mockingbird? It's not stated, but would seem to be about the time she went to college or just before. Her attitudes and values are pretty much liberal, modern & independent feminism, though. I'm afraid I don't know enough about specific regional attitudes in the US, but she doesn't seem to fit in with an "archetypal" southern mindset.
