I was under the same impression that the god stuff wont be completed before Spencer leaves and that Wood will adreess it after his first 12 months on the book dealing with Divided We Fall and the rest of the initial story he has planned, so I had no expectation that we would be getting any resolve in this issue or the next.

What I was hoping for out of this issue and the next was that the stakes would be raised and we would get some decent set-up for Divided We Fall and IMO it delivered that in spades!!

Yes, it was very decompressed, but so has Spencers entire run so I'm not sure why this would surprise anyone

What I loved about this issue:

Captain Walker looks like he could be a great new character that Wood could utilise in the year ahead.

Revisiting Valarie Cooper in the situation room and her reference to The Ultimates so we can get a feel for how this all ties in with the timeline.

Raising the stakes by showing the Nimrods are killing humans too for being sympathisers and the damage they have done to four major city's (Yes, Ultimatum was worse on a global scale, but within the U.S it only effected New York. This event has decimated four major city's! And someone comented that what is happening currently in The Ultimates is much worse. True, but remember, these events are taking place before Washington was bombed so the charcter who said it wouldn't know that yet!)

I also loved the fact that the President ceded power over the south-western states, setting things up nicely for what we know of Brian Wood's run dealing with Strykers Regime!! If done right the next year of stories in both X-Men and Ultimates could be EPIC!!

I also thought the giant Stryker sentinal at the end was one of Spencers best final splash pages yet! That was until Wyokid ruined it for me by pointing out he looks like he's about to cry! Now it's not so menacing

And finally the last thing I loved about this issue... KITTY!! Damn I've been missing her since issue #6!!

I'm really looking forward to next weeks now as I agree with one of the above posters, it does look like Spencer has adjusted the scripts slightly to help set things up for Wood's run, so hopefully he'll go out with a bang after all!!

I though Havok was on the list of dead, from Ultimatum. When the Academy exploded.

I'd want to cry too if I went from looking like this:

to looking like that as my only way to be alive.

I know it's not X-Men, but does this make up for it?

That certainly does make up for it! You've just reminded me that Vol 6 of IDW's Transformer Collection comes out this month

And funny you should post the Unicron picture.

Reed Richards last line in this weeks Ultimates made me think of him!!

Imagine if that program he added allowed the city to become a giant robot.

So the U.S has ceded power over the states of Arizona, Nevada, New Mexico, Oklahoma (and by the looks of Ultimates #10, soon to be Texas) leaving all of the resident survivors their trapped behind enemy lines in what could be compared to a DMZ

I wonder how long Marvel have been planning for Brian Wood to take over this book, because when you combine the above with a cast of mostly young adults, he really is the perfect choice for telling this story!

Re-reading this issue I noticed the prominence in the way they were showing the devastation and discussing how screwed they were and how even if The Ultimates were about they wouldn't be up for the job and then... CUT TO: Kitty looking bad ass and mysterious in the alley way

I think it was Wyokid who joked about her suffering from main character syndrome in the DWF poster, but I don't think we've seen the half of it yet.

I can really see her coming out on top from this relaunch as one of the tent pole characters of the Ultimate Universe which I personally couldn't be happier for.

We know in issue #13 Woods is doing a one-shot re-introducing Kitty and showing her call to action moment.

What do people think this will be?

My theory is she will realise that this is all very much her fault! If she hadn't killed Stryker then he wouldn't be half as powerful as he is now and when you combine that with the whole "X-Men shouldn't kill" thing, the guilt could act as a good catalyst to get her to step-up.

    It was indeed me.

I think the thing that makes me most excited is that The Ultimates are finally going to be heroic (I could argue that they were heroic in New Ultimates, but I'm not going to).

It’s not that they’ve not been heroic, more they’ve had little chance.

Both The Ultimates and The X-Men have been very reactionary this past year, always one step behind of the big bad as the world continues to crumble around them.

I think Divided We Fall will be that long awaited moment when they all decide enough is enough, regroup and get ready to kick some ass!!
