Maybe the reason Jen is so hard on him is because she secretly harbors feelings for him...or maybe she just doesn't like to be out quipped.
Family and Graduation means I didn't get last week's books until this week, but I did eventually get them. Avenging, overall, was a fun done-in-one story, but it also has moved this book closer to the drop list. I've yet to be really wowed at this book, and it's very formulaic. Character meets Spider-Man. Character is annoyed to be with Spider-Man. Character and Spider-Man fight a bad guy, Spider-Man (usually) saves the day, character remains smugly confident about how much more important they are than Spider-Man. And it doesn't help that the art has gone way downhill since Mad left the title. Those first three issues were beautiful, and since then it's been mediocre to meh.
I do think, however, that after thinking about it some that I understand what Wells is trying to do with these stories. Because despite everyone treating Spider-Man like the annoying new kid, he pretty consistently is the one responsible for winning the day. He beat the big mole guy, he stopped the snake guy, he encouraged Cap's habit, he is responsible for the Egyptian god going away. It's like he's going for a hyper-competent sidekick style story, with Spider-Man as the side-kick. Maybe I'd be ok with that once in a while, but at this point, well, I'm just tired of it. I just dont' understand the reasoning behind treating your single biggest super-hero as second fiddle. I don't understand the justification behind these superheroes who he's helped out/saved the life of/shown up repeatedly treating him this way either. Like, it doesn't make sense for in-story or out-of-story reasons. I'm also a little tired of goofball Spider-Man in general, because that, in my opinion, completely misses the mark as to who he is. You can tell jokes without being a goofball. =\
In any case, what saves this title in the end is that it's getting a new writer (IIRC) and there's only one issue to go until the Ms. Marvel one. So I'll get 8 simply because skipping one would be weird and after that point things seem like they'll be different.

Ok, I finally got to read this last Saturday after more then two weeks of doing some survey fieldwork for the office. And as a big fan of the She-Hulk, I like it, but hope that Spidey's wisecracks come back to bite him in the arse, haha. In a nice way. The interaction between the two wasn't as positive as either Byrne or Slott wrote, but they've both been through a lot, so it's normal for things to cool a shade.
Johnny Storm was dead; who is this resurrected Johnny Storm?
"Here, hold my Annihilus…" Johnny Storm, Fantastic Four #601
I liked the issue, but I thought it was rather similar to earlier stuff in this title.
Thanks to his demeanor, Spidey annoys a Hulk.
He tries to bond with a teammate over something that interested him when he was a kid, as in the Captain America one-shot.
No, it really isn't how he is. The other heroes treated him better in the 70s. This is easy to look up. He was in like a 130-140 marvel team-ups in the original run. He's no Captain America, sure, but there's a space between "revered icon" and "gutter trash". He's saved these people's lives before, and some fo them have even directly come to him for help (Hawkeye, as I recall). And perhaps it'd be something if he wasn't on their teams and had worked with this people before. But he HAS. I don't care if it doesn't fit the precious little mold they want him to be go into. The mold doesn't fit. It makes no damn sense. Unless, I suppose, every other hero is a horrible person.

Great art, typycal 'we need a team-up so story doesn't matter that much' story has become the staple of Avenging.
I've read She Hulk's old series and it doesn't feelk like Jen Walters at all. Spidey sounds and is treated like Phil Coulson.
Avenging doesn't seem like a great title, despite the huge expectations. Hope they fix it or cancel it.
Gutter trash? Hyperbolic much? They treat him as a kid sure, but I do think all of the heroes do respect Spidey on a very deep level, though they aren't upfront about it. Frankly, I am cool with it. There is only but up from here for Peter in the eyes of his teammates and that's gonna be a fun ride just like this series is proving to be.

Now that would be reasonable. I always crave for more Amazing and Avenging is just random issues. Best Avenging was probably issue 6, and that was because it was actually included in the Omega Effect arc.
Not the bigest fan of Yost, but we'll see how he treats the webslinger. His Fear Itself: Spiderman wasn't particularly impressive to me.
