I love GOTG the comic book. Its easily my favorite series of the 2000's. That said I hope they don't make a movie out of it because it would be a disaster. The special effects would require a massive budget and in case you haven't noticed the comic book movie market outside of Avengers has been rather soft the last few years. Anyone remember Green Lantern flopping last year? Ghost Rider fizzling this year (though with international numbers it did make money). Captain America and Thor taking in less domestically during their entire runs than Avengers did open weekend.

And comparison to Serenity / Firefly. . . . . .ugggh. Don't get me wrong, I love Serenity and it happens to be my favorite movie of all time. But it BOMBED in the movie theater. Truly and completely BOMBED. Josh Whedon made it on a shoe string budget of $39 million and it didn't quite that much back with international #'s thrown in. Now cut off the 30% theaters get and add in the marketing budget and you've got a movie that lost somewhere in the range of 10-15 million for its studio. Thats not the comparison you want to make for a GOTG movie.

Lastly comic book fans are accepting of a certain amount of silliness. We can look at two silly characters like Cosmo and Rocket Raccoon and enjoy them and maybe even find them awesome like I do. General audiences won't be nearly as accepting.
Price your book at $3.99 and I'll trade wait. Make me wait too long for the trade PAPERback and I'll say screw it. I'm looking at you Marvel and Spider Island.

Now if only they can cast him before he's too old!
Now that you mention it, Peter always had a certain Fillion quality to him. Nice catch.

To be honest, Serenity was a bad movie.
Firefly was a great series, but that movie had tons of plot holes and Rivers solving all their problems. BLECK!

I came to it backwards from most fans. I'd never seen a single episode of Firefly and knew nothing of the plot. I actually thought River and Simon were brand new characters introduced to story for the movie. Yet I loved it enough to see it twice in the movie theater and then go buy Firefly on DVD. Speaking of which there were a lot of Firefly fans who did repeat viewings of it and there were campaigns to buy tickets to the movie and give them away. That makes its puny #'s look even worse.

Still I find it to be an absolute fun movie and I love it.

i guess he'd work. because i recently purchased a few issues of Starlord's return, i kind of see him as Jensen Ackles.

but i'm biased. i was kind of holding out for Fillion to be Pym and Tudyk as Lang.

I do believe they said they were taking a more light-hearted approach to Ant-Man, which can admittedly be a hard sell.
Why aren't you reading Winter Soldier? You should be!

After what was shown in the credits of the Avengers movie, they HAVE to have a Guardians of the Galaxy movie. Adam Warlock needs to be introduced.

    no they didn't.

On February 9, 2007 Wright said that the project was in "a holding pattern" while the script was revised, with casting yet to begin. The director reported that he would have news about the film in a few months.[14] He has been researching nanotechnology for the film.[15] As of March 2008, Wright told Empire magazine that a second draft of the script is being written. Known for being a comedy writer, the director noted that the film would not be overtly comedic, but that it would be "more of a full-on action adventure sci-fi film but with a comedic element."[16

yeah but your feeling is incorrect.

I feel like I should ask you about the Ant Man movie.

    Sure, why not?

You’ve been working on the comic book adaptation for a while. Is it ever actually going to happen?

I hope so, yeah. I’ve written a script, and once Scott Pilgrim is done I’m going to work on a second draft. It’s something I’ve been passionate about for awhile.

Yeah, but ... Ant Man? Seriously? Isn’t he like Aqua Man with lower self-esteem?

Not at all! I had a copy of the Tales to Astonish comic from the early 60s, which has his origin story. And I’ve been a fan ever since. I think it’s a really interesting high-concept idea.

Let me make sure I have this right. This guy shrinks to the size of an ant, and he has an army of ants at his disposal?

    That’s right.

Is that really the most effective way to fight crime?

Ah, well ... you’ll just have to wait and see.

You’re an amazing director, Edgar, but I don’t know how this is going to work. I mean… Ant Man? The guy who becomes an ant? Isn’t that like trying to stop a mob boss with a box full of kittens?

I know there’s a big stigma attached to it, mostly because every movie about shrinking has been about people in peril. I think it’d be great to do a shrinking film about a bad-ass secret agent.
Okay, I see what you mean. I was thinking along the lines of Honey I Shrunk The Kids.

Even something like The Incredible Shrinking Man, which is a fantastic film, is about a guy in trouble. But this is going to be nothing like that. It’s essentially a high-tech spy heist film with somebody with a very particular power.

The awesome power ... of an ant!

Trust me, it’ll be much cooler than you think.

    useless horror movie trivia:
did you realize that the guy who played Howard the Duck (physically) also did a lot of the physical performance for Chucky (child's play movie series)?

I'm still not convinced. If it's not like Honey I Shrunk the Kids then the tone will probably be along the lines of Green Hornet.
