Yeah, the two movies were Batman Year One and Year Two, of which he was pretty much comics equal.

Batman Year Two basically dances straight through gunfire to slap around the Reaper. He also does stuff like accrately and casually throw batarangs off to the side without looking to knock guns out of people's hands...while giving a speech.

I didn't see that kind of thing in the second Batman movie. :)

I disagree with that. He fought completely functionally and straight to the point (which was established in the first movie when he WAS trying to do flourish moves against Ra's). The scenes basically matched exactly what was supposed to be going on.

Even the dog thing is missing the point; the entire point of using dogs is that martial arts don't work on dogs like humans and you pretty much have to go into "raise arm so they can latch on, counter" mode, which is exactly what Bruce did. And the only way the Joker got any hits on him was by using dogs (figurative or literal) against him and then stepping in for a quick hit while his defenses were down from dealing with them. That's ignoring that the Joker was good enough to precision kill someone instantly and overpower any standard police who went against him.

His fighting style is crap. There is no way the blows he lands would knock people out. Elbowing them in the shoulder? Kicking them in the shins? Come on. The fight choreography in the Bat movies is terrible.

For the record, Begins and TDK were not like Year One and Two. Just Year One, TDK was supposed to be 6 months after Begins. But yeah, the fighting choreography hasn't been great, but hopefully that will change. Plus it works for the grounded, not quite realism Nolan was going for. For good Batman fights I usually go to animation. The DTV movies have been quite excellent in the action and fighting scenes (at least for Batman and Wonder Woman, they haven't done an impressive Superman fight except for the last bit of Apocalypse and some of Superman/Shazam). Anyways, with a more physical opponent (Bane) and new fight choreographers hopefully TDKR will finally impress in that area. As for the comment that Batman fights too slow, well that's been the costume's fault, not the choreography. Hopefully come next reboot they'll figure out how to make it out of lighter, more flexible materials.
