I think the New Gods are outside the multiverse structure. That's why Apokolips simultaneously attacked Prime Earth and Earth-2.

Hints of that were evident as early as COIE # 12 back in 1985. The Anti-Monitor had destroyed the entire DC Multiverse, but Apokolips was untouched. Darkseid postulated that the Anti-Monitor's next target would be Apokolips if the latter succeeded in defeating the superheroes, and thus helped the heroes to defeat the Anti-Monitor.

For example, during the late 1990s/early 2000s, there was some sort of ELSEWORLDS tale that told the story of an allegedly "Bronze Age" era Superman and Batman from the 1970s. The problem was that neither Superman nor Batman during that story seemed anything like the authentic Maggin/Swan Superman of the 1970s or the O'Neill/Adams Batman of the 1970s. Instead, they just put stereotypical 1970s-era haircuts on Clark Kent and Bruce Wayne (which looked NOTHING like the styles the characters actually wore during the 1970s, but more like a revisionist 1990s/2000s stereotype of the 1970s) and let them stand in for the Bronze Age characters.

I enjoy stories that hark back to earlier eras of the characters' histories, but only when the artists and writers earnestly attempt to accurately re-create the historical depictions of those characters.

I think that happens all to often when some writers deal with topics they love. Sometimes it seems that they view the past through rose colored glasses. This happens with characters that writers love, era of comics, even previous storylines.

Good writers can detach themselves from those glasses, and come out and do some quality work, but it can be hard for editors spot a good writer that doesn't have those glasses on.

From what I see in the DCU right now, we've got a really good "dark" line and a rather well-developed line (or two) of standard, straight-up superhero books. The only book, to my knowledge, that's making any attempt at comedy is actually Johns' Justice League (which is strange when you consider how the JLI title is being played straight). I would have loved Dial H if it were played like the original Dial H for Hero. I love the old Silver Age Robby Reed stories. It seems like it would be a great choice for a lighter, more family-friendly book that still takes place within the DCU. The Dial H I looked at was just too weird, though. It seems to me that "different" usually just means "dark" or "weird" these days. The only other choice most people would suggest is the Johnny DC books, which I tried reading but couldn't get into.

The book I really miss is OMAC. OMAC wasn't necessarily a light book, but all the concepts in that book were played so over-the-top that it was hard to take it seriously in a conventional way.
I totally get you now, Adam, and you know what? I totally agree with everything you just posted.

I miss the hell out of OMAC as well, and I prefer over the top and fantastic superhero comics myself, but it's good to have dark and weird comics thrown in the mix too, but just not too many.

You're right. Dial H is way too weird for me too. I guess that means it's a great comic.
    I seriously miss Captain Mar-Vell.

So I see that Young Justice hasn't been mentioned since early in this thread.Anyway, I asked Dan Didio if it's still Earth 16 and he informed me that the YJ universe is no longer part of the multiverse...specifically, he told me that YJ is "self numbered" and grant has a list of all multiverse worlds

Just out of interest, when and where did you get to talk to Didio (I am not questioning it, just curious), and did he say *anything* else about Multiversity (beyond "its happening" which I have gathered)?

Does this look like a complete list then?:

Earth Nu52 (my name for it, the combining of New Earth, Wildstorm and Vertico)
Earth-1 (the Earth of the OGNs)
    Earth-2 (the younger Justice Society)
    Earth-23 - Black Superman

With possibly Earth 12 for BATMAN BEYOND (I am not sure that has been confirmed) and the Earth of the 90s with Conner Hawke (MY Green Arrow not thst its relevant.

Does that look right, so far? What about Earth Prime (the Earth that Waid's LEGION was on) doesn't that still exist, technically?

    Cheers.

    Personally, I think it's:

Earth Prime - where the main DC stories happen.
Earth 2 - where the Earth 2 series takes place
Earth One - the name of the series of OGN's but not necessarily really an alternate Earth.
Any number of randomly-numbered Earths used by writers as they see fit.

Prime Earth, not Earth Prime, for the DCnU.

Well, it's nice to be understood.

I'm not opposed to weird comics or dark comics. It's just I've got my DC Dark fix from I, Vampire and my DC Weird fix from Frankenstein. We need a DC Light line where all the craziness happens. 5th dimesnional imps, talking gorillas and all that.

James: I sent him a message on Facebook to ask if it was still Earth-16 and he responded:
The Young Justice cartoon is self numbered and not part of 52 multiverse at this time. Grant has a list.
So no, he didn't mention anything more about Multiversity except that Grant has the multiverse all planned out :/
