With Thanos on the horizon, and Joss Whedon claiming to be a massive fan of the character, there will not be a Civil War adaptation. And thank god. We've had heroes fighting heroes in this movie, making a whole film out of it would be redundant and the fact is, there is dozens of better Avenger stories.

How would they pull the idea off without seriously damaging at least one lucrative movie property?

Yea i don't think audiences would respond to well if RDJ's Stark all of a sudden becomes a government stooge. Even if they did tone him down from the comics, it'd be a terrible business decision as well as creative one.

I agree the time when Jack Bauer was considered heroic has passed,

They can't do a Civil War movie because in the MCU, the Avengers are already registered and working for SHIELD. In fact SHIELD put them together in the movies.

I think movie Iron Man would probably be on the other side of the war. Cap would be with Shield, mainly because he is so naive.

Not saying I'd be for it, just saying it's possible if they really wanted to. And who's to say Whedon or Feige wouldn't want to adapt it?

It sure looks that way. Iron Man seems to be Marvel Studios golden boy and Cap's leadership role and overall influence seems reduced to me, in almost all of Marvel's media.

Why wouldn't Feige and Whedon want to adapt it? Because Whedon himself chose Thanos to be the big bad. It's quite clear what Marvels intentions are at this point.

This can go a hundred different ways though. He could be the threat that ends the fighting and unites the heroes during Civil War. Who really knows?

As mentioned, we've seen heroes fight in movies. It was pretty much half of Avengers. Just have heroes fight bad guys.

Just playing with the idea a bit... the Civil War thing is an idea they could sort of run through all the movies.

Maybe have some sort of disaster that occurs in the Hulk movie with the Hulk (as opposed to the New Warriors) causing some deaths.

They can maybe have SHIELD hire Iron Man to hunt down Hulk (and maybe some other super humans) in the Iron Man movie. They don't have to spin him as a bad guy like they did in the comics, and in the end they can have him lose his job.

Maybe in the Cap movie, they can have some villain replace Iron Man (someone other than Osborn since Sony probably has his rights) in some sort of Dark Reign-ish story, with Steve fighting against that guy rather than Stark.

And they can do Siege in the Thor movie, where the government attacks Asgard. Course, in the movie version Asgard isn't in Oklahoma so some sort of tweaking is probalby needed there.

And the Avengers movie can end with some sort of threat that brings everyone together.

They can't do Civil War exactly like it was in the comics... but there's a workable idea there if the writers wanted to go there.

I think an ongoing story like that would make a lot of people mad.
Movies aren't TV shows. That's a big thing that you guys need to understand, and these actors will get older.

As long as each part was a self-contained story in and of itself, I don't think people would be mad. Honestly, I think more than anything people liked the fact that the movies linked up to each other.
