Kirby's stuff is still great, but he's not my favorite. I think Bob Brown is my favorite.

I may be blind, but I can't imagine why anyone would be offended or critical of Kirby's art.

Now Lee's writing and dialogue were horribly sexist. I suppose one can say it was a reflection of the times they were written, as well as the attitude of their audience.

I read FF4 Essentials for the first time this past year, and just about every issue has some slight of Sue, or her acting out in some cliched way. On top of that, she often played the victim, the damsel in distress that had to be rescued.

I know there are fans of early FF4. It made me gag.

One of the guys who did the Civil War parodies back in 2006 must have been a classic fan of the FF from that period. Kirby was out there doing some mind blowing large format and collage stuff. His design work in the way it represents atmosphere and mood is insanely psychedelic.

It was that stuff that won me over as a kid. I remember reading my brothers DC Comics and coming across this:




That sold me on Kirby completely and I raided his huge American comic collection and lapped up all of Kirby's work.

As someone who has been reading american comics for years and back-read Lee,Ditko but not read Kirby comics yet which series would you recommend first ? I have of course heard alot of how important he is historical in the field. For some reason i havent read him yet. I prefer if you recommended a non-superhero work of his first. I like other genre classics of american,western comics.
