I'm hoping Johnny isn't being shown because he'll be part of of a new Ultimate F4 team (or 5, whichever). Maybe with everything that's going on in the coming months, he feels like he needs to stay close with his family. If Mary gets killed, that will be the only family he has left, I believe. I'd love to have a new ongoing F4 book. If Captain Mahr Vehl is in it, it'd be absolutely perfect! Ultimate doesn't have a sci-fi element right now, so that would definitely fill that need.
Pull List: Uncanny X-Men, All-New X-Men, Ultimates, New Avengers

I asked Brian Wood on twitter if there was reason Johnny was omitted from the pic/interview and he said "Yes". Which could mean anything of course.

edit: He later clarified that Johnny is still in the book. Yay!

I like the new looks, but Rogue looks like she has wings or blades of some kind come from her back.

Kitty's new look reminds me a Street Fighter Alpha ChunLi.

Whilst I would have liked them all to be in line with Kitty's new costume, reading the article I can see what they are going for with the whole "non-uniform" thing, so I'm cool with that.

Unifying them with just the armband yet keeping their own individuality is a pretty strong symbol that could work well.

Gutted to see Johnny missing from the roster though?!?

Someone mentioned this earlier but here's picture proof. I wonder what's going to happen to Johnny. My favorite thing about these new costumes is just how militant they look. They're like mutant freedom fighters. Everything we're learning about Brian Wood's running is making me more excited than I've ever been about Ultimate Comics. And I've been reading them since the UU was formed. This is shaping up to be a monster of a book. Can't wait to read it.

Shaping up? No no no, this has been a monster of a book since the relaunch, Wood's just cranking it up past 11. Good to know that Johnny's still gonna be in the book though.
Holding out for a Peter/Miles team up.

Meh. I'm enjoying Ultimate X-Men but Brian Wood is really taking this cast to the best possible place. Spencer's X-Men aren't really going anywhere, they don't have a defined mission that's carrying them through the book. Wood is bringing in that oomph that fits this cast unbelievably well. That said, I hope Spencer gets to put a nice cap on his run an it doesn't feel too slighted.

Well to be fair, that kind of position for the X-Men did make a lot of sense, they had just found out that they weren't the next step in evolution but instead the United States' dark secret of a failed experiment. That in itself along with the fact that mutants were being hunted would create a big identity crisis as to who they are and where they belong in the world. And on top of that, the X-Men have been scattered since they disbanded with Kitty and Bobby being around Peter, Jean with Ultimate X, Rogue on the run and Ororo and Peter locked up in a mutant camp. Wood is taking the setup of the characters to the next stage in their stories in the overall narrative. While a lot of what Spencer did was setup, it was a necessary step for where Wood is taking the story next.

I like everything but Bobby's boots. I think they look ridiculous.

However, I really like the armband motif. I agree with Wood that it's an even bigger statement than the Xs across the chest. It's like the Jew's gold stars in WWII, but this time worn by choice. All four of these mutants could hide behind human personas, but they choose not to.

    "Mutant and proud."
I like Ultimate Comics. - Read them with us!

I also buy: Captain America, Avengers, FF, New Avengers, X-Factor, among others

It's a way more meaningful stance than just wearing a n X-Men uniform. Sporting the Xavier Insignia shows everyone that you believe in Charles Xaviers' original cause, and has a very ULTIMATE feel in that they aren't so much an official team but rather a group of people fighting for a cause. 616 has Uniforms and official team status whilst Ultimate has streetclothes with armbands. Just has that "real" factor to it, despite being about mutants and superpowers, that is

Is there any substance behind these "UFF is coming back" rumors apparently floating around?

If so... Could they do a Fantastic Four without Johnny? I could get behind Sue, Ben, Mar-Vehl and Nova. Johnny's never been into the sciencey stuff, so I could see him opting to help his friends (if Sue gave him her blessing, of course).
Marriage Era Spidey bashers are shameful opportunists (Like you REALLY didn't enjoy a single Spidey comic in 20 years)
Conversely, BND haters REALLY need to get over their continuity elitism already

To be honest the first time I heard the rumor was when someone said that it was a rumor... so I personally don't feel as though there's any weight behind it. There was also a rumor that Ultimate Peter Parker was coming back from the dead, and look how that turned out
