It was packed out again today. This is just insane.
virtue untested is innocence
I don't think it can be overstated how crazy this is ~ it might do a billion in 2 more weeks. 2 of the friends i went with last night were going for the second time, and with an A+ Cinemascore, it's going to have legs through May and maybe into June...

...and looking at what's coming up, (Dark Shadows this week and Dictator/Battleship next) it's not inconceivable it might stay #1 for a couple weeks.

This movie is going to smash every record.
The only thing left if for this movie to win some sort of award. If it manages to win a golden globe or an oscar, which it won't, that this will be the greatest Superhero movie ever made at this point.

It is so rare that a movie this hyped lives up to it's expectations and this one surpassed my expectations. I saw the movie yesterday and was very surprised. I was so happy Marvel did a good job controlling spoilers and bootlegs. I would pay to see this movie again, maybe in a couple weeks once the crowds die down a bit.
Hopefully they re-invest that money in the economy, creating more jobs and helping homeowners pull themselves out of crippling debt.
edit: nevermind

How is this possible? I mean, literally, is it possible to bring in more money in a weekend? Isn't there a point where every seat is sold out in every auditorium and a previous record is simply impossible to beat without inflation bumping prices up?
Another record the Avengers broke was the per theater average.
$47,600 per theater over the weekend. That's pretty amazing for a 4000+ theater movie.
Stay away from the chimps. You can't reason with them and you'll just end up with monkey shit all over your clothes.

But the question about the maximum possible ticket sales is one worth considering. Repeat viewing or not, there are only so many possible showings on an opening weekend and a maximum number of tickets that can be sold. Every movie that opens is restricted in its possible gross by that maximum number. Everything depends on how many theatres there are, what the ticket prices are, how many showings per day, and how many seats in each theatre. I imagine accountants must calculate those numbers in the effort to determine how a movie should be released, to meet set targets.
Wow. It made more in its opening weekend than Batman Begins made in its entire theatrical run.
I believe all that needs to be said has been. So here’s my two cents.”-- ScottMC, inadvertently summing up the Internet.
