This is going to be interesting. For some reason I was able to list the artists faster than the writers, which I found a little strange. I even found one spot to put Jurgens in! Probably forgot someone...

I'm going to have to think about this.

I know my list of writers will include Stan Lee, Roger Stern, JM Dematteis, Peter David, Brian Michael Bendis, Paul Jenkins and Dan Slott.
    1. Stan Lee
    2. Roger Stern
    3. JM Dematteis
    4. Dan Slott
    5. Brian Michael Bendis
    6. Peter David
    7. Paul Jenkins

But there are so many great writers to choose from for the remaining three slots. Mark Millar. JMS. Zeb Wells. Marv Wolfman. Tom Defalco. etc.

As for artists, I have no idea how to rank the top three: Steve Ditko, John Romita Sr, John Romita Jr.
Todd Mcfarlane is probably at #4.
Then I'm not sure how to rank Ross Andru, Mark Bagley and Marcos Martin.
And there remain quite a few great artists to choose from. Chris Bachalo. Erik Larsen. Ron Frenz. Humberto Ramos. Mark Buckingham. etc.

    * Edit- Hmm. Stan Lee is a separate writer from Stan Lee + Steve Ditko. So there's now only two slots for writer.
    Sincerely,
    Thomas Mets

We've got six writers in common, I do not like Bendis' work on Spider-Man (however I am not a Bendis hater).
As for artists, my top three were JRjr, Ditko and Romita. I also included Martin and Ramos, which both I think are briliant. Buckingham... That's who I forgot. DAMN! I even got signed comics with dedication by him!

For writers I also put DeFalco, Wolfman, and took advantage of the Lee/Ditko team up, and also added Gerry Conway.
    My artists list was:
    1. John Romita jr
    2. Sal Buchema
    3. Steve Ditko
    4. John Romita
    5. John Buchema
    6. Mike Zeck
    7. Mark Bagley
    8. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa
    9. Marcos Martín
    10. Humberto Ramos
Sure now that I see it I would probably rearrange it, but that's ok.

The best writer who ever wrote spidey was Stan Lee, he did create the character after all. The same goes to Steve Ditko as well.
Peter Parker + ' 'with great power there must also come great responsibility '' = Spider-man

It'd be awesome if Stan Lee came in second. I mean, that would just lead to so much fun afterward. Clearly the first guy got the more votes, but no one is willing to say they didn't vote for Lee.
I know Kevin Nichols through a guy that knows a gal. Small world!

But with other characters, there's often an agreement that other writers surpassed the original.

Frank Miller is the best Batman writer. Either Alan Moore or Grant Morrison is the best Superman writer. Chris Claremont is the best X-Men writer.

It's impressive for Stan Lee that he hasn't been surpassed on Spider-Man.

Including Spider-Man 2099 in this as well.

edit: BTW, Claremont for X-Men, yes. But Moore and Morrison for Superman is a maybe, as is Miller for Batman. I personally love some of the oldest Batman stories more than Miller's work. Superman...haven't read that much honestly, but others have I am sure! What about Byrne? Waid? I digress.

And yet, Marvel has not ask Stan to writer a 3-part story titled Spider-Man: The End!!

Spider-Man has been blessed with a lot of talent.

    Here's my top 3:

    1. J.M. DeMatteis
    2. Roger Stern
    3. Lee/Ditko

After that, things get really tricky for me.

Busiek, Conway, David, DeFalco, Lee/Romita, and Slott are all there, I'm just now sure where on any given day. Love 'em all.

Stan Lee is definetely the best Spider-Man writer. And for the artis, Steve Ditko. Sorry, i'm pretty classic in this thread.

Another team up of Writer/Artist that I like a lot were Kurt Busiek and Pat Ollyfie (I don't know if I spelled properly) in the Untold Tales of Spider-Man.
