Deathstroke 9 Preview & Discussion (Spoilers): The Liefeld Cometh

Hey everyone,

This isn't really about the new series, but it's Deathstroke related so figured I'd ask in here. I was a huge Deathstroke fan as a kid, and decided tonight that next time I'm home to bust out my collection (think I had about half the issues) and also start to finish it through ebay. I also came across the comicvine site to see what else he's been in. My question for now is, for all the issues listed as him being in them, if he's not on the cover, does that mean he's not in the issue for any substantial amount of time? Is that correlated at all? I don't want to buy a ton of comics if he's in them for like 1 page, you know? Any help would be awesome, thanks!

this is actually hard to respond, cause there had been cases where a comic has ppl on the cover but not all of those are in the comic
i remember a Titans Comic which had the team breaking into arkham and the cover had the team surrounded by Red Hood, Killer Croc, Mr Freeze, etc, and not of them were in the book

on other cases, just cause he is not in the cover doesnt mean that he is not issue
for example, team books

so its hard to respond really
specifically for only 1 character like Deathstroke

I absolutely loved the first 8 issues of this, as I'm a newish fan and didn't know much about Deathstroke.

It feels like everything got worse. ESPECIALLY the art. His suit looked so cool before! Lots of little gadgets and practical touches. Very armor-y.

What happened?

The preview has a different armor because it's Liefeld's not to George Perez.
I'm assuming that it's light armor since you don't usually go to a love one's grave in full armor ready for battle.
He changes the armor later on in the issue. Still nowhere near as good as Bennett did it.

It's not the Omega Men. It's the Omegas (offspring of Omega Men). Liefeld said he didn't want to touch Omega Men. He'll leave that to Giffen.

I didn't hate this issue. In my opinion, It pales it comparison to Kyle Higgins' first 8 issues, but the only thing that really bothered me was how Lobo was drawn. I also didn't like Slade's opening monologue.

I can only think that he made this comic as bad as it is, so that fans would buy it as a curiosity. There were 7 individuals gathered around a copy at my LCS laughing their collective @$$es off. I swear, DC is out to ruin every character I ever enjoyed.

The same dude gave Cry for Justice #1 five stars (a perfect rating). Not saying this issue didn't suck, just saying that I take Doug Zawisza's reviews with quite the grain of salt.

Just read the book myself and can say that DC were mad for allowing Liefield free reign on Deathstroke.

The art and feeble attempts at a story were laughable to say the least.

I will not be wasting my time or money on any further issues until such a time as Liefield ceases to be associated with it.

the plot is that some random secret organization wants to kill Deathstroke,
they attack him, Deathstroke owns them and then they stop and some guy named Maxim(what kind of name is that) says that this was just a test and he wants his help to catch Lobo so pretty much this team, as far as we know, has no connection with the random secret organization that wants to kill Deathstroke

well thanks, now I dont have to waste money :)

As for Maxim...it's apparently also a FHM type of magazine with less than half dressed celebrity girls on the cover and general nonsense on the inside, so perhaps Liefeld was reading it while on the loo.
