Well said. This isn't a 1 weekend and done movie either. All my friends and family loved it so word of mouth is going to give Avengers legs.

The movie is already at 640M worldwide after less than 2 weeks, and will be over $1 billion within the next two weeks. I doubt Disney will have any issues recouping their investment if they haven't already. Not to mention all of the merchandising money they will rake in.

    Great news.
I watched it recently and thought was beyond amazing, had a great time watching.
Hopefully this means the sequel wont take much time to be made.

It'll likely be the standard 2-3 year wait.

I think you might be. It's an amazing movie. And what is wrong with Serenity, exactly? It's a fantastic movie, and a fantastic cap to the Firefly series.

What was your problem with Serenity?

It'll likely be a little longer: they'll be fitting in a whole phase 2 of at least one more Iron Man, Thor and Cap, which takes us to Summer '14 already, plus probably at least one more character movie (another Hulk? Ant-Man finally? the long-rumored S.H.I.E.L.D. or Black Widow movie?) before making another ensemble event of it.

2 is definitely out of the question, as Marvel already has two movies planned for that year. 2015 is probably the goal. Here's the official lineup:

    May 3, 2013 - Iron Man 3
    November 15, 2013 - Thor 2
    April 4, 2014 - Captain America 2
    May 16, 2014 - TBA

    Serenity was amazing.

What exactly about this looks like crap? I'm especially curious after the universal praise for it has come out.

Not counting the midnight shows, Saturday was bigger than Friday. That almost never happens with action/superhero movies. So word of mouth is strong. They are already forecasting a 90million dollar weekend next weekend and I doubt that Battleship will be able to beat it on the weekend of the 18th. I believe this will be number one until Men In Black opens

Anyone else feel some pride that the Top 3 weekend openers of all time are comic book movies? It shows that there's a lot of interest in these characters – not just from comic book readers – but from people in general.

What are the chances of them getting the film rights back for Spidey, X-Men… etc and doing a company wide crossover movie?

Oh yea, you can tell by looking at it, it looks like Transformers 3.5. And that is not a good thing
